MSL traded to NYR for Callahan and picks

For some reason though, I can see his numbers dropping off quite a bit now not because of his age, but because of the team he's on.

I was going to say it's felt like forever since the Rangers had a PPG player but Stepan and Nash were pretty close to it last season under Vigneault, and Gaborik had some great seasons there too. So it's not like he's going into LA where goals barely exist. He might not finish top-10 again but I'd have him pegged for maybe low-70s next season.

Vigneault wasn't with the Rangers last season, for the record.

Hope_Smoke: McKenzie "there have been 3 or 4 occasions over the past 3 years that St.Louis indicated to TB that he wanted out"

There has been talk about this not being the first time St Louis asked out. It does feel like he was more serious about it this time.

I really feel like this is the missing piece of the puzzle here. I would guess that at some point after St. Louis asked for a trade Yzerman said something along the lines of "We don't want to trade you Marty, we think you're one of the best players in the league" which would have prompted St. Louis to see that his being left off the Olympic team either meant that A) Yzerman was lying to him or B) opinions had changed.

But didn't he just sign the four-year contract three years ago?

But what really does it say? Your take on the situation still doesn't see St Louis being treated poorly or unfairly by Yzerman et all; it still appears to be a St Louis ego issue.

I guess I'm just interested in the original thing that caused St Louis to want to leave. Saying he's been wanting out for three years doesn't make a lot of sense considering he signed a four year deal to stay in Tampa three years ago.

My point isn't so much trying to convince anyone who thinks this reflects badly on St.Louis that they should think otherwise so much as it is that this sort of explains what happened to a more satisfying extent beyond just St. Louis being offended by the slight of being left off the team. If St. Louis thought that Yzerman's decision was evidence of him being lied to or placated it makes more sense than just being upset about being left off the team because that also happened in 2010. Does being lied to rise to the criteria of poor or unfair treatment? Maybe not but I can see it being the final straw if St. Louis largely wanted out anyway.

St. Louis signed the four year extension July 1st, 2010 so that's closer to 4 years ago. If his first request to leave came in the last three years, roughly, then it could have come a year or so after which, I mean, a lot of stuff can happen to someone personally in a year.

My opinion of Yzerman has actually gone up in view of him refusing to pick favourites for Team Canada or pander to a player who felt he was entitled to special treatment.

With the Rangers reaching the Conference Finals, the Lightning receive a 2014 1st round pick from New York as part of the St. Louis deal.

Yzerman has them set up pretty good going forward I think.
