And how many times have we heard that the scouting department has been revamped? Why does Morrison still have a job?

For starters...

Since 2006, Leafs draft picks have played in a total of 2,537 NHL games. That's 5th highest in the league.
5:22 PM - 23 Jun 2014

The Leafs amateur drafting has been pretty good.  It's their pro scouting that leaves a bit to be desired...

I'm assuming that meant games played with the Leafs specifically?
The 2006 draft has 1594 games played.
2007-2014 drafts have combined for 1690 games played.

It's still a relatively meaningless number though as a player getting 200 games playing 7 minutes a night isn't necessarily indicative of good drafting if he is only playing because the overall depth of your team is bad.  Nor is it equivalent when comparing to say a guy playing a similar number of games but being far more productive.

The dull roar of the explosion shook the city, rolling slowly outward in all directions, engulfing block after block with its tidings of change.  The mushroom cloud rose skyward, like an incantation to the gods, dark, darker than the ages, dwarfing the arena below it as it towered to a height of 10,000 feet or more.

Its mighty volume of noxious filth began to rain down on the long-suffering people of the city.  It was they who must unfairly shoulder the burden, the burden of disgrace that had for so long infected the heart of their hopes and dreams.  Many rended their garments, yea verily, tore them in despair, sending lamentations heavenward from where, alas, no swift answer would come.  A gray pall hung thick and low over the land.

From a safe distance, Brendan the First, Chieftain and King, watched from his throne.  He was resolute, yet his heart was also heavy.  He knew that years of desolation lay ahead for his people, a wasteland of hope and desire that they must traverse with little to guide them.  This had to be, he knew, yet still he could not help but feel a twinge of regret.

But he was a Philosopher King, a sage, a prophet, a seer of things that might yet come to pass.  And so, he allowed himself the thinnest of smiles.

Because he knew this, this, in his heart of hearts: for all the gray pallor that enveloped the firmament, a beautiful new day had dawned.

One of the names that has been thrown out there that is intriguing (and by thrown out there I mean it's just been mentioned by reporters, not linked to the Leafs yet) is LA's assistant GM, Mike Futa.

I think it's likely that it'll be a current assistant GM-type, meaning we'll be giving up a 3rd rounder in the process. Rob Blake was everybody's obvious pick, but it does seem like he's happy where he is right now. That leaves guys like Brisebois (TB), Botterill (PIT), Fenton (NAS), or you like said Futa (LA). Sean Burke's name is also out there.

I just read an article mentioning Futa and Paul Fenton of the Preds. While I don't know whether it's what the Leafs are thinking, the reasoning -- an up-and-comer AGM without a big personality -- makes sense given what the Leafs have been setting up, what sort of candidate they're likely to attract given the structure/personnel already in place.

This from one of those "tough", "character" type guys:

@mirtle

Roman Polak: "In the season, it's all mental... It's hard to play here."

A  quote taken out of context?  I'm curious to know what 'filler' was extracted from the middle of that quote before it was tweeted.

I assume it was a pause.

That could be.  It doesn't seem like Mirtle's style, but more than a few journalists will cut quotes to make a particular impression.

Shanahan dropping some very encouraging quotes. Don't have time to paste them all here, but find your preferred Leafs reporter on Twitter.

Sounds like you are in full offseason mode.  I'm looking forward to watching the pressers after work.  Hopefully they have them in their entirety and not just pasted together in fragments.

I've heard before that Futa was an up and coming GM, and has a draft record to back it up, so he would definitely be an intriguing guy to throw into the mix.

Futa was also born and raised in Toronto, although it looks as though he couldn't crack a team and ended up playing a couple of years in Germany and Denmark before coaching 10+ years in the OHL.

I'm curious if anyone thinks Dave Morrison will be let go after the draft?  He may be a useful guy to keep around in an advisory role until after draft day, but after that I would assume Hunter would want to insert his own people.  And his record doesn't exactly scream overwhelming success.

Morrison seems like a very bright fellow, who knows, perhaps Hunter likes the dude and thinks he can work with him.  Hunter is the main man and nothing and nobody are coming into this organization without his stamp of approval. Shanaplan made a great hire in Hunter and he relys on him, you can tell that from his comments today

Chris Johnson clarifies which scouts have been kept:

[tweet]587710262041427968[/tweet]

Dave Morrision staying as well, although like others have mentioned at this point Hunter basically has final say on that stuff now. Penny and Watt are their two remaining professional scouts. I legitimately have no idea how they got out of this unscathed. Armstrong obviously has a job-for-life here, I think he's only kind of a part-time scout in the Ontario-area. Malarchuk scouts out West and Lilley is a NCAA/US prospects guy. Bergman's record speaks for himself and Ladygin is another European scout.

So going from the list of scouts on the Leafs site that's 15 guys who were let go.

Palmateer is gone then?  Hm, kind of a blow to a former star.  I hope that doesn't create a rift, but probably does.  Sort of awkward to be around the rink as a former player at the events.

Mike Penny survives? That guy has 122 lives. He was god-awful in Vancouver too.

French CDN link confirming Leafs scout Pierre Rioux's dismissal

From that, the Leafs management listing is only partially up to date:

I assume that Alan Power got fired out here.

TO Sun link
Gone from the hockey office are general manager Dave Nonis, director of pro scouting Steve Kasper, Jim Hughes, the Director of Player Development and strength and conditioning coach Anthony Belza.

Pro scout Rob Cowie was also dismissed. The amateur scouts took the biggest hit, starting with ex-Leafs Mike Palmateer and Peter Ihnacak. Also let go, Alan Power, Gary Harker, Scott Carter, Pierre Rioux, Roy Stasiuk, Darryl Stanley, Bud Stefanski, Dave Shyiak, Pat Dapuzzo and John McMorrow.

European scouts besides Ihnacak, included Joe Gibbs and Jari Gronstrand.

That looks like the most complete list of those dismissed I've seen in the media so far and it includes Alan Power
