Official Ottawa Senators Thread

Watching some of the Ottawa-Winnipeg game while Leafs are on intermission- props to the Ottawa crowd for still being so loud and into it considering the teams recent outings.

Great game - much better effort from the whole team, starting with Anderson.
Sucker for the most part the Jets controlled things - it was one of those rare nights where we have some goaltending.

I went to the Sens-Jets game last night.  Every time the Bruins scored they flashed the score on the scoreboard to get a crowd reaction.  Showed the score at least 4-5 times to get a fan "pop".

They showed kids in the stand with a "LEAFS SUCK" board.  Got another fan reaction.

After the game while driving home listening to the post game on the Team 1200 they did the out of town scoreboard and yup, first up, "Bruins beat down the Leafs"  (they were broadcasting live from one of the restaurants inside SBP)... they waited for the cheer.  The commentator then said again, "come on guys, louder that that...the Leafs lost tonight!" and it got a louder cheer.

It's pretty sad the inferiority complex they have.  I doubt they constantly show the Sens score in Toronto.  It's like a little jealous brother who has to say "na na" and point fingers at the older, cooler, more popular brother whenever they get a chance.

They're one of the worst teams in the league, they lost 15 million dollars last year by most accounts and they look to have just signed their version of Vesa Toskala. I'm not going to begrudge them resorting to whatever they can to interest their fans.

It's cute that you think of the Leafs that way.  They're like the older, cooler, more popular brother who is 44 years old, dropped out of high school, lives with his parents and hangs out with kids half his age who only tolerate his presence because he always has weed.

The Sens are the loser younger brother that is too busy finishing med school to go out on the weekends.

Haha... I like your Leaf analogy. Your Sens one? Not so much. The Sens are more like the the younger "special" kid who for a short period time had promise but unfortunately still rides to school in the short bus.

GOLD!!!  One of the best posts I've ever read on here.  ;D

I think the Maple Leafs are more like Jean Arthur while the Senators are more like Thelma Todd.

Didn't they sell "LEAFS SUCK" t-shirts at SBP or was that outside the arena?

Either way, the whole mentioning a third team that has nothing to do with the game being played that night seems pretty bush league to me.

I would have an inferiority complex too if Ottawa was one of the world's alpha cities while Toronto was the armpit of Canada.

Throw in 4 or 5 years worth of ass-beatings in the playoffs and it becomes pretty easy to understand the hate.

Maybe so - but there is always fair share of people who wear their Leaf jersey to a Sens / whoever game too.

This thread is rocking!

I think some of you are losing sight of the fact that not only are the Leafs always a presence in this city, the Leafs are also our #1 undisputed rival - the only other team that might come close is Buffalo the difference being we don't get all the news on what Drew Stafford's 5 favorite pre-game meals are every day or have our home arena half invested with Sabre jerseys every time they are in town. It's called the Battle of Ontario isn't it?

...and yes, feeding us our lunch 4 times in the playoffs is still a huge, gaping wound.

:]

I'd rather wait until next year.

Yeah, his trade value will likely be much lower, but I'd want to trade him as a rental and have the opportunity to bring him back in the summer (whether it be as a player or staff member).  He's still got a year left on his contract after this one.  Though, perhaps his recent injury troubles have him leaning towards retirement.

Regardless, if I was the GM, I'd ask him near the trade deadline if he wants to stay or move.  If he'd prefer to stay, that would end the conversation right there.  If he'd like one last shot at the cup, get him to supply a list of teams he'd like to play for, and try to put together the best deal available from those teams.

Sure, it would artificially lower his trade value, kind of like the Heatley situation, but he's Daniel Alfredsson.  He's earned it.

PLUS

The Senators are getting a break from the schedule maker to complete this three-game homestand for the second straight time. The Jackets faced the Red Wings Friday night at Joe Louis Arena and then had to travel to Ottawa. That means the Senators will be sitting and waiting for the Jackets. Ottawa has to take advantage of that situation. The Senators should feel good about themselves after a 4-1 victory over the Jets Thursday. The line of Milan Michalek, Jason Spezza and Colin Greening was the club?s best. This is the kind of game that Ottawa has to win.

MINUS

The Senators haven?t shown any level of consistency this season. The victory over the Jets which pretty much the first time they?ve been able to put together a 60-minute effort. The loss of Peter Regin to a shoulder injury doesn?t help a club that is already struggling with a lack of depth. He has been strong when he?s gotten a chance to be in the lineup, but hasn?t been able to stay healthy this season. Goalie Craig Anderson needs to continue to make the big saves like he did against the Jets. He said he couldn?t do it all by himself, but he needs to make the big stops to give his club a chance.

INJURIES

    Columbus: RW Jared Boll (thumb); C Jeff Carter (foot); LW Kristian Huselius (pectoral muscle); G Mark Dekanich (ankle); G Curtis Sanford (groin);
Ottawa: D Matt Carkner (knee); C Peter Regin (shoulder).

NO WIZ AGAINST SENS: The Jackets won?t have D James Wisniewski. He will serve the last of an eight-game suspension he was given by NHL VP of safety. Brendan Shanahan for a hit to the head of Minny?s Cal Clutterbuck in the pre-season against Ottawa. The club?s top free agent signing with a six-year contract in the off-season will return Tuesday against the Red Wings at home in Columbus.

THIS 'N? THAT: The 35-save performance against the Jets was Craig Anderson?s 100th victory of his career and his 13th in an Ottawa uniform. ?I?ve got the puck, maybe I?ll put a nail through it and put it somewhere in my house,? said Anderson with a smile ... D Erik Karlsson is tied for first in the NHL with seven assists (including 5 on the power play) ... C Jesse Winchester suited up for his first game of the season and played 7:13 against the Jets. ?I was glad I was able to contribute,? said Winchester.

I don't want Alfie to be traded at any point. NO. ALFIE. NO.

If there's any truth to that and word spreads, that pretty much nukes his trade value. He's on a 35+ contract, and no one is going to trade for 2 months of him and almost $5M in dead cap space next season.

Since his salary for next year is only $1M, he very well may retire.
