Game Notes
FLA
-Sergei Bobrovsky will likely start for the Panthers
-The back-to-back Stanley Cup champs went 1-5-0 in 6 games prior to the Olympic break, a stretch that likely ended their playoff hopes this season
TOR
-Joseph Woll will start for the Leafs
-Joshua will finally get back into the line-up after missing time with a lacerated kidney. We'll see if Berube can find a spot for Cowan somewhere too

I just want entertaining hockey at this point. Losses are probably better for us but I will not cheer for them.

The Leafs are 10 points out of Bottom 5 in the league. Even that doesn't guarantee we keep our pick. But if this team wants to rebound off this dreadful season it's hard to imagine they can do it without draft luck.

I don't know if the draft pick is the be all or the end all. I think that if they make some good moves they can improve this team for next year.

For example, I know this is very pie in the skyish, and won't happen, but if they could structure a deal like:
To Edmonton:
Laughton (50% retained)
McMann (50% retained)
OEL (No retention)

To Toronto
Matthew Savoie
Beau Akey
2026 2nd rounder
2206 3rd rounder
Andrew Mangiapane

And maybe Isaac Howard (because of no retention on Mandiapane)

You have a couple of new forwards for next year and some youth.

Then you start exploring trades for Nicolas Roy and Brandon Carlo

It's all asset management at this point. Maximize an influx of players where the talent that is coming in should be more than what is leaving. It's kinda like trading down in the draft to get more kicks at the can.

Without serious lottery luck, the 1st rounder is gone. The odds of them getting into the top 5 pre-lottery are about the same as them making the playoffs. That being said, the next week or so needs to be a rough one in terms of their results to really spur a sell off at the deadline. Post-deadline, the more wins, the better. Get that pick as deep into the 1st round as possible.
