Vancouver Giants announce the passing of Pat Quinn. Condolences to his family and many friends in the hockey community.

Terrible news: Pat Quinn, long-time Leafs and Canucks coach, has died. He was only 71.

Awful.  :'(

My most vivid Leafs memories involve Quinn-coached teams.

It is with great sadness that the Vancouver Giants announce, on behalf of the Quinn family, that Giants Co-Owner Pat Quinn passed away on Sunday night at Vancouver General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

"Words cannot express the pain we all feel today for the Quinn family," said Giants majority owner Ron Toigo. "Pat was an inspiration to all of us. He always said that respect was something that should be earned, not given, and the respect that he garnered throughout the hockey world speaks for itself. He will be sorely missed."

Devastating.  Only 71. :(

I didn't realize he was suffering from an illness until I think it was Steve Simmons who mentioned it in a column a couple weeks ago.

Was a huge fan of Quinn when he was a part of the organization.  He provided great memories.

I thought he didn't look great the last few times he was on air but chalked it up to age. Bummer.

Best two leafs coaches in recent memory, Pat Burns and Pat Quinn.  Both named Pat and both gone too soon.  R.I.P Pat Quinn.

This was a shock to hear. Loved the Quinner and I agree, some of my favourite Leaf moments were while he was the coach. Too young.

RIP Pat and my condolences to the Quinn family. :'(

Sad news indeed. I remember people here divided into supporters and PAQ, but it was all in fun.  We certainly haven't had any coaches come close to him since then.

I really liked and respected Pat.  Some of my fondest Leaf memories are with him behind the bench.

R.I.P Pat Quinn.

I looked up to the Leafs group while you were coach here. I was 11 When Pat first started coaching the Leafs, and he really felt like one of the big reasons things started turning around after a couple of years of no playoffs.

Thanks for the memories.
