Game Notes

PIT
?Jarry (20-8-1, 2.13 GAA, .931 Sv%) will likely start for the Penguins
?Malkin did travel with the team to Toronto but his status obviously depends on how he feels this morning
?The Penguins pushed past Washington to take 1st place in the Metro. Maybe time for them to take things easy eh

TOR
?Andersen (24-12-6, 2.97 GAA, .906 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Keefe said that starting Andersen was a fairly obvious decision. Here's hoping he along with the rest of the team can bounce back from an all-around disappointing effort in Pittsburgh
?The projected lines are from practice yesterday, but I wouldn't take them too seriously yet. Denis Malgin is likely to make his Leafs debut and Keefe said he was waiting for his arrival to make changes to the lines
?A Florida win last night pushed the Leafs out of a playoff spot for the time being

Injuries

?Evgeni Malkin - Illness - Questionable Thursday
?Zach Aston-Reese - Lower Body - Injured Reserve
?Nick Bjugstad - Abdominal - Injured Reserve
?Brian Dumoulin - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?John Marino - Face - Injured Reserve
?Dominik Kahun - Concussion - Injured Reserve
?Jake Guentzel - Shoulder - Out for season
Code:

?Andreas Johnsson - Knee - Injured Reserve
?Cody Ceci - Ankle - Injured Reserve
?Morgan Rielly - Foot - Injured Reserve
?Ilya Mikheyev - Wrist - Injured Reserve

After the last two games I don't care so much whether they win (although it would be nice if they did)...I just want them to actually compete for a full 60 minutes.

Why do I approach each Leaf game with such immense feelings of dread and impending doom? I watched all through the mid-80's...I watched every game under Mike Murphy...I watched Kessel play with star centre John Mitchell...

We were supposed to be good now. It's not fair. It's not fair at all. This was our time now. This was supposed to be our time!

Agreed, lets see 60 minutes of intense effort, and let the chips fall where they may. I think the thing pissing us of is not losing, but appearing not to try.  I would have preferred to give Campbell a chance but lets hope Freddie regains form.
We are sorely lacking on 2 solid D men and Rielly is still weeks away from returning.

Hey Andy, just think about what could have been if Keefe had been running the show since September and Rielly, Mickey, Mango and to some strange extent Ceci had been in the lineup. Not to mention injuries to Marner, JT and Muzzin.  With the talent we have there is no place to go but up. We need at least one top 2 defensive D man and perhaps have one of the Marlies like Kivihalme graduate as well.

Yep. Give me the effort. If everyone gives their all from the drop of the puck to the final whistle and it's not enough, so be it.

I'm predicting a win tonight

At this point all the games are pretty meaningful, but I'd think this one would be pretty pivotal one way or another when it comes to team identity for the rest of the way.

Like Keefe said..Freddie is the guy... I can't see them giving Campbell an extended run as a starter..

I only predicted a win, I didn't say for which team.  :D

I couldn't bare to watch the 3rd period of the last game, but I didn't think the leafs weren't trying.  For instance, I thought they were really trying hard on the 5-on-3, got some chances and just didn't score and then got burned the other way.  That sequence was so crushing because it really looked to me like they were doing their best.  Their defense was just bad, but not due to a lack of effort.  At least I didn't notice the lack of effort.
