Preseason: Canadiens @ Leafs - Sept. 24th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

I don't know the rules for minimum NHL players in a pre-season game, but this got to be scraping the bottom of the minimum.

(2) a goaltender who either dressed in fifty (50) or more NHL Games or played in thirty (30) or more NHL Games in the previous season,

(3) a first round draft choice from the most recent year's Entry Draft, or

(4) any Player who has played one-hundred (100) or more career NHL Games.

Kapanen, Jooris, Cracknell, Greening, Marincin, Carrick, McElhinney, Sandin

The Leafs whole preseason is against some very weak teams. Would like to see them ramp it up against some better teams.

OTT/BUF/MTL/DET the bottom teams in the East last year.

Leafs preseason has been against this group of four teams for a couple of years now.  Not that I disagree with you that it be nice to see better teams, but they do it like this for geographical reasons more than anything.

That's ok, we have to beat up on these teams in the regular season too.

Figures. I get tickets to a game and I basically go to see the Marlies. Couldn't I have ONE of the Leafs' good forwards playing?

Why hasn't Subban been playing?

I mean he's like at best 12th on the Leafs depth chart for defencemen right now, and that's not including Liljegren and Sandin.

Why wouldn't you include those two?  But yeah, excluding those guys and career AHLer LoVerde he's at 12th or 13th, depending on your view of Nielsen.

Speaking of Nielsen... Sandin has looked much better than I expected.  Taking preseason with a grain of salt, but still I wonder if its time to cut bait on him and try to see if Sandin can pull a Liljegren and play with the Marlies this year instead of heading back to Sweden.

I think the reason you might not include them on the depth chart is that it seems reasonable to think that despite where they rank in terms of skill where they play will be dictated more by what the team thinks is in their developmental instead of where they can contribute the most.

I just meant you've got 11 guys ahead of Subban who the Leafs are playing in pre-season because they're either NHL locks or are battling for a handful of spots. Liljegren and Sandin don't fall into that group, but the Leafs want them playing in pre-season for experience and such. So that's 13 defencemen who the Leafs want to see in pre-season instead of Subban.

Marlies reunion battle: Rinat Valiev and Byron Froese figure to be top depth options for the Canadiens.

One team is getting a lot of chances but can?t quite cash it cleanly. The other team is just throwing it at the net and it is deflecting in.
