R1G1: Leafs @ Bruins - May 1st, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

Wait how did cross-checking become spearing? Did Orr do something stupid or is Yahoo Sports a little goofy? They have Komarov and Orr with spearing penalties in the 3rd period... is that right?

Isles are getting smoked too, so I wonder if some of it is experience vs inexperience and inability to keep it from snowballing.  Bruins have around 1000 more games of playoff experience.

I think we can play with this team, so hopefully Saturday demonstrates that.

Jagr has almost as many playoff games under his belt as the entire Leafs' roster. Like I said a few days ago, this series is a real trial by fire for the team. They failed that trial tonight, but, there's still a lot of hockey left to play before it's all said and done. If the Leafs can cut down on the giveaways and the penalties, they'll be in every game.

Yahoo Sports is a little goofy. They had Komarov's 10 minute misconduct as spearing, as well.

No no, it's over.  In fact, it's already a sweep.  We've been told that by the expert.

Yeah, goals for and against don't matter game to game.  2-1, 4-1, 8-1, whatever.  Gotta come back strong from this, the Leafs can easily make a series of it if they play versus Boston like they did during the season.  Things unraveled way too easily this game, but I'm willing to chalk some of it up to inexperience.  I hope anyways.

I fully expected a loss tonight and had no problem for this inexperienced team to "burn one up". But what I feared Coming into this matchup was the boys would look and be completely overmatched, and that is showing tonight. Time to put this aside and regroup for Saturday because it's not going to get easier.

I completely agree that is the case. Boston (and Pittsburgh) knows what the playoffs are like...the Leafs (and Isles) barely do.

I do believe however that pointing to Boston's stumbles heading into these playoffs undermined their capabilities and wasn't indicative of the team we were likely to see.

Beginning of the end of Kessel in TO. But did he play that many minutes this game?

His crucial pass lead to the only goal of the game.  He wasn't the problem tonight.

Thanks for this. Just seeing on the twitter a bunch of crap like "Phil Kessel has disappeared just like we all knew he would!" Yes, many other players were the reason for the loss tonight too. Kessel's far from perfect, yet the media will make him the goat. Ugh.

I wonder if Boston dominates the hell out of us in 4 (looks likely), and the Marlies go on a deep playoff run, does Nonis entertain the idea of firing Carlyle and hiring Dallas?

He got us into the playoffs.. but it was a shortened season, and Advanced Stats showed there was regression due.. The only thing that showed improved was our PK (which was a massive improvement) but defensively we've still sucked as we have for years now.

no chance firing a coach who won a stanley cup for one bad series.

I suppose.. Though I think I remember reading Nonis wanted Eakins to replace Wilson.

I'd like a coach who doesn't have a defeatist attitude. The Leafs don't play to win. They play to not lose, and although they've been successful at it this (shortened) season, it is ultimately self-defeating.

Eakins has done well with the Marlies, and considering how decimated they are by call ups (who sit in the pressbox in the NHL...someone explain THAT to me) he's done very well with them. He seems like a much more positive coach who is able to do a lot more with a lot less, granted, at a different level.

Komarov's awesome. Why didn't Orr and McLaren do that at any point in this game?

I also wish that someone had crushed Boychuck for his awesome hit on Grabovski too.

Yahoo must be on drugs. They gave Rask the 3rd star of the game for his 19 saves. Leafs badly outshot - again. Bruins outshoot their opponents - again.
