A Swedish source says the Leafs have signed Enroth.

Mediocre translation:  "Some transfer news from vacation. World Championship gold goalie Jhonas Enroth signup with Toronto shortly according to my data."

UPDATE: Leafs confirm signing http://www.tmlfans.ca/community/index.php?topic=4008.msg272499#msg272499

Would make a lot of sense, if true. He's probably the best backup out there as a UFA.

Not a confirmation, but TSN is pickup up the same report:

I'm probably being unfair here but does anyone remember a situation where a signing like this broke from an international source as opposed to the usual gang?

I was starting to wonder if maybe Enroth's size was scaring away the Leafs. He's listed at 5'10", 171 lbs. That's a couple of inches and 15-ish pounds smaller than Bernier. Will be interesting to see how the proposed changes to goalie equipment effects his game.

I have a vague memory that we learned of Czerkawski this way.

Most of the Zaitsev info came from international sources. Same with Soshnikov. Of course, those were guys playing in the KHL prior to signing with the Leafs, so, admittedly, it's not an apples to apple comparison.

When it comes to the Leafs it feels like most moves aren't being broken by the usual gang but by the Leafs themselves. So assuming that this leak came from Enroth (and Enroth's presumably Swedish representatives) it would make sense that an international source would get the scoop.

Do the Leafs have goaltending scouts outside of California?

Over the last 10 years or so the majority of non-homegrown goalies in the system have come from California based teams.

Vesa Toskala from San Jose (2007-10)
JS Giguere from Anaheim (2009-11)
Jonathan Bernier from LA (2013-16)
Frederick Andersen from Anaheim (2016)
Jhonas Enroth (assuming it happens) from LA (2016)

Mirtle has done some digging on the Enroth rumour and hasn't found anything substantial at this time.

I wouldnt mind Sparks as back up, if the goal is this year to draft in the top 5-8 then why not?

I think there's a difference between development and critical confidence issues, if just in shade. Even with this team being confident in their goaltending tandem ( which I don't believe they will be with Fishbulb ) it seems to me they're likely to draft bottom 10 anyway, I'd rather a solid back up be there for that with the hope that Andersen is going to bring that too so they can lose with their pride somewhat intact as a group. Granted, I don't actually know what they feel/think about Sparks, it's just a guess, but the GM seems to be interested in getting a solid back up.

If they were really interested in tanking they probably wouldn't have traded Bernier and maybe gone with something along the lines of what you're thinking to try to guarantee a bottom 3-4 finish.

Well they do tend to be in the playoff/contender discussion nearly every season so there is that, LOL.
