Robidas to TO (3 years, $3mil cap hit)

3 years for a 37 year old with 86 combined games over the last 3 years.    That projects to 33 games over an 82 game schedule.  I really like Robidas.  He showed he could come back from a broken leg...and then he broke his leg again.

I think this might be one of those Van Ryn situations where if we get him healthy in the lineup we really like what we see, it just won't be very often that it happens.    I foresee LTIR in his future.

Depending on the cap hit, nice signing. He was a guy that I wanted, although it's probably a year too long.

Agreed. I assume back up plan to gorges, but hopefully at a discount.

Yup, good player, decent term, but coming off an injury. Depends on dollars, but I think this is a good signing...

3M AAV.  I can handle that.  He's still going to be in and out of the lineup but he adds a veteran presence to the blueline that the team needs.  He plays good defensively and can chip in the odd amount of offense.

37 year old who has broken his leg twice in the past 8 months and you give him 3 years?

Good player, but will he play much?

I don't want to watch a Leaf get seriously hurt on the ice, which almost seems inevitable for him. :(

I don't really understand this signing to be honest. Veteran depth? Maybe this frees up Phaneuf to stay off the PK? Does Polak kill penalties too?

Am I missing something here? We have the lockout year, where he played the full 48 games, and the year prior to that he played 75. This last year he was at 48.  How does that project to 33?

I like him and I like the cap hit but yea, he's signed until he's 40 and coming off a broken leg. I guess it could be worse.

Polak kills penalties, yeah. 3rd on the Blues but that's behind Pietrangelo, Jay-Bo, and Jackman.

The only problem I have with this deal, other than the 3rd year I guess, is that either Robidas or Polak will now pretty much be forced to play on the 2nd pairing, when they're both better suited for the 3rd pairing.
