Round 1: Capitals (M2) vs. Islanders (M3)

Jesus, Carlson gets a roughing penalty with 2:54 left in a 2-1 game. They've let players try to paralyze each other all night long before that.

Man, playoff hockey. I could barely breath during that last minute or so. No idea how actual fans of these teams survived that. Caps win.

Islanders managed 11 shots? I couldn't watch the game but that's either a misprint or a pretty harsh statement of the game they played.

Oh, they were bad. It was like 2010 all over again, except for the ending: Caps dominated, Halak was amazing.

I'll take your word for it but 26-11 is what's being reported as the shot total.

Maybe something got lost in the translation... but I was confirming that the Islanders were thoroughly outplayed tonight.

No, I believe you. I didn't write that last post well. I guess my comment was more about the idea of a team dominating and putting up 26 shots and a goalie being amazing while making 24 saves.

Like I said though, while in my entirely ignorant head that shot-total reads like a lackluster game on both sides I can absolutely buy it being misleading in parts.

Oh, ok, I gotcha. Yeah, the Caps played better than their shot totals indicate. They did slow down in the 3rd though, shots were 21-7 after 2 periods. That's where their domination really showed.

Apparently Isles had the lowest shot total in a game 7 in NHL history.

Unlike that Leafs game against New Jersey where one out of every 3 shots was getting counted, that's a pretty accurate shot total for the Islanders today too.  They were atrocious for a random regular season game let alone a Game 7 playoff game.

3 shots by their forwards.

Oh, great. (*sigh*)  'Bye 'bye Isles.  They tried but failed to conquer.

Good luck to the Caps against the Rangers.

Good luck Caps indeed.

If the Rangers lose then according to someone in the Predators-Black Hawks thread, the Nashville pick will move up one place.

Thank you , sir.  Every time someone brings up that Jersey game I try to make the same point.

Great piece from Mirtle on Ovechkin.
