that said maybe eventually these kind of hits will have to be taken out of the game ...the more we're learning about concussions and what not ...perhaps we'll have to change what we expect out of something meant to be entertainment...
but yeah..i find it hard to understand how random punishments really create any sense of justice..or continuity ..and that conversation would seem to be one to have between seasons..not just when the nhl knows there's a bunch of people watching...

In Ference's case, it absolutely was. And Ference has a history. Yet he only got one game because Grabovski's face didn't slam onto the ice afterward.

Well, that seals it for me. I don't buy Shanahan's explanation. If they want that hit out of the game, then change the rules again. But under the current rules and understanding, I think Shanahan's explanation is a big, inaccurate reach that the head was targeted on that hit and therefore, it's a bogus suspension in my opinion.
They're reacting to the injury and not what the Sens player did.
