Darren Dreger was on Montreal?s TSN 690 on Tuesday morning.

...

?There?s a lot of speculation that they?re going absolutely all-in on Steven Stamkos. I mean, some of the numbers being rumored ? and I always hate throwing out or building off rumors, because as an Insider, our job is to separate fact from fiction. But Newport isn?t talking and neither is the Tampa Bay Lightning, so nothing has changed there. But some of the numbers being speculated on are upwards of $12 million per year coming out of Buffalo.

Yeah I can see Buffalo going crazy here.

Absolutely. And, that basically raises the price for everyone. If there's a $12M per offer on the table, he's not signing anywhere for much less.

If Buffalo signs him for $12 million I am sure the Leafs will still have the last laugh. I would love to have Stamkos, but I would not want anyone at that price.

It has begun. The rumblings and OFFICIAL Stamkos sweeps. It isn't even Saturday and the posturing, chest pounding and jockeying is already coming out.

Love it.

So, I heard back from CapFriendly about SOIR. It is essentially a term they made up, but it's in reference to section 15.6 of the CBA. The cap relief available only applies to players on two-way deals that played less than 50 games the previous season - so, it would not apply to Robidas or Horton, as they are on one-way contracts.

I would take Crosby at $12m, but not Stamkos.

Dreger on 1050AM: "I know that if July 1 were tomorrow, Detroit would happily put down a seven-year offer at $10 million per."

Thing is, it's not really even that crazy given the salary structure of the league. If we believe that the UFA market should have an inflationary role in salaries then going 14% higher than the biggest deals not signed as UFA's for a player who's arguably better than either of the guys who signed at 10.5 isn't madness. It's just a reflection of what stars are really worth.

Looking on Yahoo for player stats and EVERY team logo is Boston Bruins.

I don't know if it is my computer or if it is the web site:

https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/

Anybody else see that?

They're actually pretty good for splits and situational stats.

Yeah, shockingly they are very good for that stuff.  CBS used to be my go-to-website for preseason stats too because the NHL used to be a cluster-fudge when it came to preseason stats.

yahoo is my preferred sports site. I've been using it for a decade or more. USA Today used to be my other go-to, but I haven't been there in years.

(Said nobody, ever).

Any time I have to go to NHL.com to look at a stat I think long and hard as to whether or not I really want to make that point.
