Tavares out with a broken finger

If Babcock put Matthews out late in last nights game instead of Tavares this wouldn't have happened...

Joke ruined.

Curious to see how the Leafs handle this. Does Nylander go back to C? If so, does Marner play with him or Matthews?

Intriguing. I don?t think we are piling on more LTIR...

Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Marner
Moore - Petan/Spezza - Kapanen
Timashov - Shore - Gauthier

Or

Moore - Matthews - Marner
Johnsson - Nylander - Kapanen
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Timashov
Petan - Shore - Gauthier

Now he has two weeks to yell at his baby to let him sleep and not be fatigued from being a new parent when he gets back on the ice.

I'd prefer trying this to moving Nylander back to C, but I don't know if Babcock would put either Petan or Spezza at 3C.

Why?  Nylander was a waste as a 3C.  Not so with Marner.

This, on top of the ridiculous upcoming sked, really turns October into a possible boof-a-thon.

I just don't really want to see Matthews and Nylander split up. But looking at both likely options I guess there are pros and cons to both. If they go with Nylander to C I'd actually like to try Matthews and Marner together:

Mikheyev-Matthews-Marner
Johnsson-Nylander-Kapanen
Petan-Kerfoot-Moore
Timashov-Shore/Spezza-Gauthier

Marner isn't playing with Matthews. Hasn't happened in the past and don't see it happening now. Nylander won't be playing centre either. Why mess up all your lines when it's not necessary.
This is what I think will happen..
Johnsson  Matthews  Nylander
Moore  Kerfoot/Spezza Kappy
Mikheyev  Kerfoot/Spezza  Marner
Timashov/Petan  Goat  Shore.
This is why they brought in Spezza in the first place. To be a 4th line Defensive guy or to fill in up the line up. He's not as fast as he was but he still has offensive ability.

I think we may see Willy on PP1 now.

I think I'm in the "shift the centres up and keep Nylander on wing" camp.

Keep the Matthews line together and play Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Marner.

I guess the question in this situation would be which line gets the top assignments? I think Babcock would be more comfortable with Matthews-Marner (Marner obviously having been in that role for awhile now, Matthews being forced to rise to that challenge) than any other combination of players.

I think it'd be nuts to separate Matthews and Nylander. Marner gets a boost with the surging Mikheyev; Kerfoot has to just not screw up too much and Marner gets to be the main show.
