The 2012-2013 Toronto Raptors thread: My Name is Jonas

Terrence Ross will be in the dunk contest. Should be good at it.
As happy as I am with this, I still don't understand why the NBA doesn't have it's marquee stars in the dunk contest instead of "young guns" or whoever. Wouldn't fans rather see Dwight, Blake Griffin, Josh Smith, and Durant square off? All have a reputation for being great dunkers.

It's more that those guys turn it down as opposed to a decision from the league. Lebron in particular has said he's not interested in doing it.

Besides, this way a guy like Ross gets to go and hang out for all-star weekend.

I'm sure the NBA could get big guys to compete if they wanted to. They've made a conscientious decision to go with the young stars format.

Mmm, nope. The NBA would love the stars to do it. Why wouldn't they? Those guys just don't want to do it. It's not like it's a new thing. For about 15 years the dunk contest has been bench guys or a young star would do it once and then never again.

You think these guys don't want to compete in the dunk contest? With their big egos and what not I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a group of stars together. Maybe I'm completely misreading the situation?

Yeah, they've said as much. They want to relax and take it easy on saturday night for the most part.

I only caught the 2nd half but wow what a game; so intense, so physical.

Well earned and heart fought win, thoroughly entertaining.

Refreshing to see the Raptors actually close out, albeit just barely, a close game. A tough test against the Knicks at MSG looms tomorrow.

Raptors with an impressive win against the Knicks at MSG.

Kyle Lowry was bounced from the game early in the 3rd, Gay was having an off-night, and the team as a whole shot only 43%. Still, we went into MSG and pulled off the win holding that potent Knicks offense to only 88 points. Great game for the Raptors to win their 4th straight.

Has the Rudy Gay trade saved Colangelo's job?

This team has been much more exciting.

I still think there'll be some who want a change if the Raps don't make the playoffs but I think the trade has at the very least given him a decent argument for another year.

If the Raptors carry on with their post-Gay winning % to the end of the season, what are the odds they make the playoffs?

Well, they're 5-2 with him which is a .714 winning percentage. With 29 games left that would have them winning, oh, 21 games or so and leave them at 42-40.

As is, the team currently in 8th is Milwaukee at 25-25 so...I don't know. Alright, I suppose. It's pretty unlikely that they play .714 ball the rest of way regardless.

Although I think that the best case scenario for the Raps is to barely miss the playoffs this year. Because the draft pick they traded to Houston is top 3 and bottom 16 protected, if the Raps make the playoffs then the pick rolls over and the Raptors get killed by the heat. If, however, they just miss the playoffs the Thunder get the pick which will be 13 or 14 in a terrible draft and the Raps have their pick for next year in what is a much, much stronger draft.
