The Force Awakens (Spoilers)

Hiding her on a desert planet is a Star Wars move for sure. And Max von Sydow plays the role Kenobi did for Luke, the secret protector.

Yeah, and like Joe said, one of the very, very many parallels to the originals (especially New Hope).

There were others!? jk

I'm going with the daughter of Han and Leia with a mind wipe of everyone who needed to have a mind wipe in place to protect her from Kylo after he went bad.

Where is this mind wipe stuff coming from? That's just a ridiculous idea... No offense.

I too hope she's not Luke's daughter. That's enough parents for one set of movies.

I think there's more plot in that flashback than there was in the whole movie. I don't mean that as a knock,  but I think there was so much flashed there that signified so much...

I think she was a jedi trainee that was hidden as a child for protection.  But I really think there's something to this void in the force. Max von sydow said something to allude to that at the beginning... And then the 'awakening'...

This goes back to the prophecy of bringing balance to the force... Because anakin did that in a way,  and not by killing the emperor but rather by killing the jedi... Anyway I'm kinda all over the place here,  but I suppose that's why I like this movie. Putting aside the call backs to previous events, there are many talking points to the mythology of the universe,  and I live that kind of stuff.

Saw it Saturday night and loved it. Felt like the originals to me and can't wait for the next one in 2017. Of course we get the one of Rogue One in 2016 as well.

I heard Mads Mikkelsen is in Rogue One, should be interesting.

There was a website that outlined the different theories.  Of the theories (Luke's daughter, Han and Leia's Daughter, Pro's and Con's) they had a theory that she was hidden and Luke used the forces to suggest that Han and Leia only had one child.  I could see them going that route.  I personally don't care, as long as they don't say that the mitachlorians spontaneously created her, I'll be happy.

Here is the site:

Yeah, and if she's Luke's daughter then you have to explain the mother at some point.

Yeah I agree with that.  I think that J.J. does a good job of setting up a story.  I think that he has failed to see it through sometimes.  I liked the first Star Trek movie, but I felt that the sequel was really lacking in some of the finer points (why is Kronos so close to earth?).  Lost had a great start, but as it moved along I felt it collapsed under the weight of it's own story.  I realize it's not all him and in most cases it's because he pulls back and hands it off to others, but I that's where it would be nice if he could stick with it and see the story through to the end.

This is very interesting and I hope they find a way to bring this in the next one.

I have to get the art of force awakens book... I love that stuff. Sometimes the concept art is more interesting than the finished product. I have the other 6 and they are great.

She's going to be Luke's daughter for sure.

I don't really understand the map deal. They said he's in an unmapped part of the galaxy, but I mean it's this one convenient puzzle piece that fits perfectly, the only place they haven't explored! Seems rather convenient.

As an aside, am I the only one hoping it wasn't basically a modern-day reboot of the franchise, sans the best part of the original which is the blowing up of the Death Star?

I honestly think that the series is going to take a left turn now that we've been baited with this lighter episode 7... maybe I'm being naive but I have faith in Rian Johnson. I think abrams has come out recently and says he regrets saying no to direct the next one after he read the script... I think ridley too has come out very recently and said the script is really good (though honestly, what else is she going to say?)

It's also not crazy to suggest that Disney & co. wanted to maybe play things a little safe in terms of this movies story. I mean, this is easily the biggest movie franchise in the world and everyone knows what happened the last time they tried to resurrect it. They also have like half a dozen movies at least riding on it.

Sure - I get that - but even with most people calling the prequels a 'failure' they still combined to bring in over 1.1 billion between them (III)$380,270,577 (II)$302,191,252 (I)$431,088,295.

So clearly as pissed as people were with episode 1, there was still an audience for the next 2. I'm not trying to start a prequel debate here, but people act as if these movies are at the same level as highlander 2.

Rey's sudden ability with the force is due to some kind of trigger.

I feel like that's the most obvious explanation. She likely trained with Luke at his school when Ren was there. Maybe she was the only survivor and Luke flew her off to Jakku to hide her and used the Force to obscure her memories to keep her safe. That would at least explain why she was so good at using it basically right away.

In Episode 4, Luke basically had no training but was able to use the Force to blow up the Death Star. It seems like Force users, particularly powerful ones, simply have an inherent ability to use the Force, even if they aren't aware of it. Qui-Gon alludes to this when explaining how Anakin was able to pilot a pod racer. He sees things before they happen. He was able to use the Force without being aware of its existence.

Why does Rey have to be related at all? Who was anakin related to? Vader and Palpatine only found out about Luke's sister by reading lukes thoughts. There were a hundred little jedi's in yoda's school before anakin killed them all.  they weren't related. i'm more interested in finns backstory anyhow as rey's seems to mimic anakin's a little bit.

Which is why I'm on board with any story line as long as it doesn't involve spontaneous creation due to midi-chlorians.

Snoke's face looked beatup. I'm wondering now if he's in the process of some kind of repair. If he is Plagueis, maybe his body was destroyed by Sidious and now it's being rebuilt, but it's not quite there.
