The Official "What Are You Reading?" Thread

I finished Room by Emma Donoghue a little while back, and it's an excellent book. Not the most comfortable read - the subject matter is definitely not a light one - but it was very well written and engaging. Not for the faint of heart, though.

Zee, I did look for and find Unbroken but not n paperback...  :-\ I'm el-cheapo!

Yeah you'll have to wait for a bit, it came out this year and has been on the bestseller lists.  It's being made into a movie too so eventually it'll be out in paperback.  I read all my books on the Kindle so it's way cheaper than buying hardcover books.

$26.99 for the audio book. I'm tempted by the preview. 13 hours long. I guess if I went that route I should post in the " what is someone reading to you?" thread.

Currently I'm getting back into the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. It's sci-fi fantasy and there are so many books in the series.

I know all about Xanth. Started reading them back in high school (back when he only had 9 books in the series). I managed to read all the way up to book 12 and finally lost interest. Apparently it's up to 34 books now.

Same here. It's been 15 or so years since I last read a Xanth book. I bought one to take on vacation a cople of years ago and never started it.  I just found it last night and started reading, a solid hour of reading later I was right back into the world of Xanth. I thought I had out grown these books, obviously not.

Did you ever read the Incantations of Immortality seriess Zee?

Yep read them all back in the day as they were being published.  Really like the first 2-3 books but then the series sort of fell off.

Going to start the new Stephen King book tonight, it's getting a lot of buzz.  Time-travel book about a guy who goes back and tries to prevent the Kennedy assassination.

Finished this book -- it was great. I hear they're making it into a movie, going to be great if they do it correctly.

Now I'm onto some Zombie fiction, "Feed" by Mira Grant.  Less about Zombie attacks and such and more about how society moved on and changed due to the outbreak

If you haven't read World War Z yet, I strongly recommend it. It's excellent. Also being made into a movie, but, there's no way the movie will really be able to do the book justice.

Yep I read that last year, really good book.  Never read the other one he did the Zombie Survival guide.

I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night because there's nothing I like more than being ten years late to the party.

I found it pretty weak as a mystery and the less said about the final chapter the better. The writing was awkward but that's probably to be expected from a translated book.

That said I did kind of enjoy it if for no other reason than it struck me as a pretty fascinating look at Sweden and Swedish people. Obviously my knowledge of Sweden is pretty limited but I found that I enjoyed being immersed in the culture. There was no attempt to make things more relatable to an English audience(I had no clue whether an amount of money, for instance, was a lot unless a character said "that's a lot of money" or something to the effect) but I found that had it's charm as it related to the bluntness of the characters, descriptions of the food and so on.

Yeah I read the trilogy last year cause everyone was talking about it.  I found them ok as quick read/action novels but nothing more.  That being said i'm looking forward to the David Fincher movie, i usually like his stuff, he'll put some great style into that story.

Can anyone recommend a good book for my upcoming semester break?  Ideally I'd like to read something nature-oriented - whether fiction or non-fiction.  I really enjoy works such as Pierre Berton's "Prisoners of the North", or "Into the Wild" and the like.

Starting reading 1Q84, originally written in Japanese by one of their famous authors, was a sensation over there and has been translated into english.

Still reading this. It's actually 3 books, I'm almost done book 2. Pretty good read but quite a few sex scenes.

I've read the first two books in the Dexter series of books as I was curious to see what happened in the source material.  The first book was good, very similar to season 1 that was modeled after it with a few changes however I was really disapointed with the second book.  A lot of the plot elements just don't seem right (example: cody being a serial killer wannabe for no reason) and the writing was a bit bland.  I don't think I'll be continuing the series.
