It's a great article obviously but while I'm sure the first half of his article will grab the headlines, I really hope people pay just as much attention to the second half. My very limited interactions with hockey parenting in this country has been pretty dispiriting.

It's very true, hockey isn't a game anymore for kids.  Even the lowest levels of the game have these nutjobs.  Just yesterday I had a parent try and force me to sign return to play papers for their 14 year old coming off his 3rd concussion in 4 months who is blatantly symptomatic.

It's a shame. Parents like this that selfishly put their kids in situations that can set them up for failure later on.

Not just failure, set them up for serious health concerns.

What's  shocking is for how long O'Sullivan had to ensure this abuse.  His ascension and path his hockey career took should have been laden with enthusiasm and anticipation, instead it was filled with dread and fear.

Feel sorry for him and have absolutely no empathy for his father, however 'mentally ill' he could be called, for the simple fact that his father knew exactly what he was doing and enjoyed it.

Maybe the greatest article I've ever read?

http://www.theplayerstribune.com/evgeny-kuznetsov-capitals-russia-hockey/

My mom would be waiting for me at the rink with my lunch and my hockey bag. My mom cook unbelievable. I?d eat like a hungry guy.

If my teammates play 60 hard minutes, do the right things, and then I turn the puck over at the blue line and we lose, I got 22 big guys in the locker room very angry with me. Not good.

He(Brooks Orpik) see how me, Ovi and a couple guys always do it. So he said he want to do it, too. We do some passes and stick handle, do crazy moves, funny things. For a big guy, he can really do it. He?s got skill. He?s not like a wood man, you know?

Some people here in America don?t like Russian style. They say it?s boring, all you do is skate. Nobody fight. Blah, blah, blah.

But, really, it's all gold.

Raise your hand if you read the whole thing with a Russian accent in your head.

Victor Hedman describes his experience going up playing hockey in Sweden: http://www.theplayerstribune.com/victor-hedman-lightning-sweden-hockey/

Much like Kuznetov's article, it's interesting to contrast how it works there with how minor hockey is here in Canada, especially in the GTA.

Do I want to know what "Vincent Lecavalier nutmegging you in practice" means?

I googled it, it's a soccer-thing. Basically means passing the ball/puck between a players feet/5-hole.

I wonder what "Vincent Lecavalier teabagging you in practice" means in soccer lingo.

Another good one, Max Domi on playing hockey and coping with diabetes. Also a few references to his dad in there.

Goes to show the sense of maturity at such a young age.  Whereas most young people his age can do anything they want without having to deal with a problem/condition, Max Domi is well beyond his years with the discipline & knowledge he needs to sustain himself everyday.

Good read.

Ryan Whitney and Mike Rupp preview the 2nd round of the playoffs: http://www.theplayerstribune.com/ryan-whitney-mike-rupp-second-round-stanley-cup-playoff-preview/

They also did a round 1 preview which you can find a link too there. It's great stuff. While I like the Tribune, it's nice that this isn't your general heavily edited, ghost-written article. Just two hockey guys talking hockey.

Perhaps not this one, but yeah I'm pretty sure most of their long feature articles are ghosted.
