The Walking Dead (S6)

I had read that the final scene of Negan and the bat swinging was filmed with only Negan on set. That way there was no way the scene would give away who they planned to kill. On the Talking Dead, the producer (can't remember his name) said they knew that viewers etc would analyze every frame so they were very careful to not give anything away.

Personally I didn't care for the ending just because I see no way out for Rick etc but I don't understand the anger out there. Cliffhangers have been around in varying degrees for eons.

Because it's pointless. What good reason could there be for keeping us waiting to find out who died?

I just went through a marathon catch up on the series.

1) WTH was with the fake Glenn death?
2) More walkers which was nice but they also seemed to be considerably less of an issue to deal with than in previous seasons.  Only the really weak/dumb people got killed by them
3) Unnecessary cliff hangers
4) In general I'm looking forward to more Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Uh, do you know what a cliffhanger is? Like who shot JR on Dallas? It's to drag viewers back to find out the answer. Granted TWD has a lot of viewers already but it's nothing compared to the number of eyeballs on tv shows in the old days. It's as old as the serialized "shorties" they used to show in the 1940s in movie theatres...and I will add was w e l l before I was around.....

Yeah i know what a cliff hanger is, and i don't think this even qualifies as one. I mean, we know someone has died. We know who killed them, we know why they killed them and we know how they killed them. Does the who REALLY matter, in the grand scheme of the story? And why is finding out later more impactful than just seeing it as it happens? There's no mystery behind it and it won't drive the story at all the following season.

One of my favourite cliff hangers of all time, the season 3 finale of Star Trek the Next Generation left us with some serious questions. Were they going to rescue Captain Picard? Would he die? We had no idea. That drove the plot for the season 4 premiere. It had purpose. When season 7 starts its going to be like "Oh...it was Glenn. Neat. What now?" That "what now" question doesn't change if they had just shown us right then and there.

I agree. I don't buy the argument that it forms the beginning of the next story and therefore belongs in the premiere of the next season. The reaction to the killing drives the next storyline.

Most are assuming it's Glenn but what if they decide to off someone more substantial like Michonne or even Daryl. Not likely granted but it can still impact the season depending on who they kill. Maybe this just doesn't seem as big a deal to me as I have no clue what's in the comics or "graphic novels" I suppose. I think it would have had far more impact had they not made, IMO, the very stupid mistake of Glenn surviving. If Glenn has been killed it would have shown that main characters can die. Now, it's more likely it's Glenn as the probable victim OR a minor character. Regardless I await with interest....

I don't know if it's Glenn or not. I was just throwing his name out there as an example. Whoever it is, it will be talked about next season for sure, but that would still be the case if they showed the death in the finale.

A real cliffhanger would have been leaving it ambiguous as to whether or not anyone died at all. Not showing us who it was serves no narrative purpose.

I only mention Glenn as apparently that's who dies in the comic.

Yes, Glenn gets killed in edition 100. Quite graphically.

I didn't like the story line of Glenn this season in relation to whether he got killed or not & I felt this was more of a cop out than the cliffhanger with Negan.
