Tyler Seguin traded to Dallas

I knew someone who was under so much pressure by his parents.  Couldn't go to the movies because he had to jog, push-ups, sit-ups, etc.  Never was able to be a full kid.  When hockey finally took him away, the successful path he was on came crashing down because of his new found freedom.

You should watch the Todd Marinovich bio on netflix - that's exactly what happened to him, to a much more extreme extent.

Tyler Seguin is gay. Is there going to be backlash that Boston traded away a gay athlete?

Not sure if that's in jest but the article didn't show it one way or another.

I think it's almost certain that Patrick Burke is 100% correct with his observation:  "It's obviously his moron "friends" grabbing his phone and projecting their stupidity all over his public reputation."

Yeah, he's not gay, just irresponsible.

Very good timing too, endearing himself to his new hometown.

Am I the only one who believes that he didn't write that tweet?

I don't buy it. Nowadays it seems like any time someone says something stupid on twitter they blame it on someone else. Seguin seems plenty dumb enough to write that himself.

Not bad Tyler (who claims only 3% body fat):

"A couple of years ago, I lost 17 pounds in one season. Guys are different; some put on weight during the season, some stay normal, I lose weight. It's something I've been trying to figure out, but it's just how my body is. I spent the whole summer last year trying to put on more fat. By the end of the year, I was down to 3 percent body fat."

Even eyeballing his physique he's not down to 3%. I would be surprised if he was even at 8%. Bodybuilders struggle to get below 5% and 3% is extremely dangerous.

I honestly think he needs to do more research before spouting off random numbers.

I honestly think it doesn't matter and that he was exaggerating to emphasize the point that he loses weight during a season. I'm guessing he's not a medical expert.

I doubt he was exaggerating as he gave an exact number number. In the grand scheme of things, yeah who cares, it's not a big deal but I think in any profession it's fairly idiotic to give exact numbers when you don't have any information to back it up.

You guys are hilarious with your rhetoric. He obviously has high paid professionals put him through tests and determining his BMI and giving him what his body fat % is.  He isn't guessing.  I also find it funny that you think this picture was taken on the last day of the season.

BMI isn't really important when it comes to athletes - they are often considered overweight or obese because they generally have higher muscle mass than normal people.

If he's not guessing what his BF% was and he was at 3% then any lower and he'd pretty much be unable to play and probably had a bunch of health issues, because at 3% you barely have enough essential fat in your body for it to function properly, let alone play a rigorous sport night in night out.

This isn't rhetoric: Either he doesn't know the numbers or his nutrition staff are doing the worst job I've ever heard of nutritionally with an athlete who's sport would probably call for a 8-10% BF% for peak performance. I doubt it's the latter, they would've been fired a long time ago.

Maintaining a 3% body fat percentage in an intensive sport like hockey would be completely unfeasible unless he was gorging himself on the bench between shifts.  The lower limits of ESSENTIAL body fat percentage are in the 3-4% for daily function, independent of something as intensive as professional sports.
