I've only been to Toronto a few times, but if you're willing to travel a bit, the Gladstone Hotel is fabulous for breakfast and lunch. It's on west queen west though (about a 10 min. TTC ride from where you're staying.)

For something casual, I really enjoyed the food at the Grindhouse Burger Bar on King.

Stockyard  is pretty good for some southern style BBQ.  It's on St Clair, just west of Bathurst, it's really good, check out their website thestockyards.ca.  But some things tend to sell out so make sure to go at a decent time.  On the other side and it's closer to where you are, I'd recommend Gio Rana's REally Really Nice Restaurant (but i think everyone still calls it Gio's Nose) in Leslieville, on Queen St E.

I started following the Grindhouse Burger Bar on twitter a while ago, when a follower retweeted something of theirs, my next trip I MUST try one of their burgers, they look good!

As for fine dining, head on over to King St. and take your pick. There's a section with lots of good places to choose from.

and while it's a chain restaurant, I have to say i really enjoyed the breakfasts at Eggspectation, just by the Eaton Centre. cheaper than a hotel breakfast, that's for sure.

see, we went to the Eggspectation in Ottawa in August and I wasn't impressed at all. Preferred the hotel breakfast, and the closer and more reasonably priced restaurant we went to on Sparks St....

I got a loan through my bank, TD, with a lower interest rate then a few of my credit cards, to pay them off and have everything in one place and lower interest rate. Is it common that after they pay off the cards they cancel them? The bank that is? It seems like the 3 cards I got paid off, are all refusing transactions now, except the TD Visa I have with the bank.

I don't remember them mentioning that they would cancel the card after they called to pay it. Its not like I ever missed a min payment, infact I always paid way more then the min payment :S

Why would they, you're a cash cow for them!  In fact, if you haven't done anything to compromise your credit score, i'm surprised they haven't upped your limit.

They can't cancel the cards without your permission.

And like sucka suggested, it's in their benefits to have you keep the cards so you can rack up a big balance again.

They can't cancel the cards without your permission.

And like sucka suggested, it's in their benefits to have you keep the cards so you can rack up a big balance again.

Not sure about them unable to cancel the cards though.  I'm pretty sure they can do so unilaterally.  Remember it's not a right that you recieve credit from the institution, it's a benefit granted to you after you accept a string of conditions.  What if your financial situation went to the toilet, i'm pretty sure if they had that knowledge they would clamp down on the credit they extend you and perhaps even close the card...which would probably further hurt your credit score.  But I think they'd have to inform you first.

I'm with you! While not my favourite, it's certainly good eatin', and I, too, am disappointed when it's all gone. I'm going to buy one on my break.

Thinking about it, the two cards that have been cancelled or closed, whatever happened, one is with CIBC and another with BMO and I am with TD, so maybe that is the reason. The Amex and TD cards are still working....

There's a cat a little ways down the street from me that was hit and killed by a car.  It's head is crushed, it's pretty gruesome.  But there is a tag still around its neck.

Do I walk down and see if I can find a phone number or something on it?  I feel like I should do something, but I also don't want to get up close and personal to pick through a poor kitty carcass...

Is there no one you can call about this?  I mean, animal rescue, the SPCA, some kind of humane organization, they won't do anything after it's dead, right?

as an owner of two dogs that sometimes run off, it can be quite nerve wracking when they do so.  Always afraid she'll be run over or dognapped.  It may be a huge relief to know one way or the other the fate of the cat.  Maybe the tags will have info from it's vet.

aw, SP.... I think so poorly of sens fans and then you come along and do something nice and sensitive like care about a dead kitty's family. As a pet owner myself, I'd want to know why Pet didn't come home last night (not that mine ever leaves the house). If you can safely get at the tag (wear gloves!) do see if there's a owner or vet name and number and call them. I'd appreciate finding out what happened to my animal, even if it means he's gone. But at least I wouldn't be left wondering if/why he ran away and whatever became of him that way.

Oh, and to answer your original question, I'm not sure for your area. But here in Barrie, if you call the Humane Society, they will come up and er, collect the carcass, and dispose of it properly. They do roadkill of the wild variety too (raccoons, etc) or hand over the info to the provincial folks. Check with your local 'dog pound' folks, If they don't do it, they may be able to direct you to the people who do.
