Useless Thread

The soccer match between Germany and the Netherlands was cancelled tonight and they evacuated the stadium, reports that they found an ambulance filled with explosives.

Edit: Press conference now saying this was not the case, explosives have not been found.

Indeed, they've cancelled and evacuated a nearby concert venue too.

Suspicious package at the train station, "concrete threats" at the stadium. All of Europe is on high alert right now. There could be nothing going on, but officials won't be taking any chances. It wouldn't surprise me if this turns out to be nothing. At least, I hope it turns out to be nothing.

For sure, my whole family is in Europe and I'm from there too. I'm well aware of the heightened threat. Reports that they received a bomb threat as well as the suspicious packages.
 
Can't let this thread die. I'm so anxious/excited, waiting for the results of an international songwriting competition, if I'm lucky, I might get a phone call from someone like Tom Waits :D
 
Anyone here know anything about Android TV boxes? Specifically whether or not they offer any substantial advantages over something like an Apple TV or Chromecast? Someone even less technologically inclined than me asked me about them and after doing some research it looks like some of them are making some pretty big claims for themselves.

I think a lot of them are using a version of Kodi as their OS with preloaded addons. The problem being a lot of the content is gleaned from less than legal means and when these apps or addons are either shut down or not supported by the original creator, they become useless.

If the box is sold be a reputable vendor with an auto-update feature so that they are constantly updated with the latest and greatest available app/addons then sure they can be good, but again I've found this is rarely the case.

Usually people are charging silly amounts of money for them too, you can accomplish the same results on your own by buying an Amazon Fire Stick($30) and loading the kodi software yourself. About 1hour watching youtube and doing the install and you'd be good to go.

Cheers for the reply. I don't think they sell the Fire Stick in Canada so assuming money isn't the biggest concern would you say one of the boxes you could buy from Amazon is, at least, as effective as that?

I would think so, but without looking at specific models I can't say for sure. I suggest googling the specific models and I'm sure people will be talking about what they are and are not capable of.
