Vanek to MTL

Only 5'11", which could hurt his transition.  Has lit up in junior tournaments, but struggled in the men's league.  Plus he's going to the Islanders, let's just call him a bust now.

I want to, but, at the same time, I want to keep the Habs trend of trading young guys and prospects who turn into quality players trend going.

Collberg was a 2012 2nd round pick, has 9P in 40GP for Frolunda. His teammate, TOR's Andreas Johnson (7th round, 2013) has 24 in 43.

Collberg got injured at the start of the year. Johnson got a chance to play top 6 mins, and never let it go.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Vanek to Montreal in exchange for a 2nd round pick and a prospect

Good deal. Damn.

So what's the final net tally on the Moulson/Vanek trade for the Islanders?

Gave up Moulson, a 1st and a 2nd for Vanek.  Traded Vanek for a 2nd and a prospect.

So Moulson and a 1st for a 2nd and a prospect.

Too lazy to look up the cap numbers but I'd imagine the Gaborik deal should have been a similar deal to the Vanek one. Gaborik netted more no? Weird.

I think Columbus is paying a large portion of Gaborik's salary for the rest of the season to make that deal work.  I doubt that NYI are picking up any of Vanek's salary

No one from 29 teams called in with a better offer than a conditional 2nd rounder and a blah blah prospect for a Thomas Vanek? He would have killed on Crosby's wing. Boston would have been an excellent fit too. I can name a dozen teams who would have really benefited. #capworld.

This season in particular was the worst timing for Snow to play around with a deal like this. The cap went down and no one had any cap space to work with.

In past years they'd have been able to recoup some of their losses, but because no one had cap room, the demand wasn't there.

So that's a big part of why they got burnt so bad. Pretty big oversight by Snow.
