Who was the craziest Maple Leaf ?

Sorry, are we talking just playing style or on-ice plus off-ice antics here? Markov is an excellent choice here either way. I still maintain Shack was/is as bonkers as they come.

Is. Definitely *is* (and by that I mean, still is!)

Eddie Shack  , Forbes Kennedy and a defenceman that played for the Leafs in the 70's that I can't remember. All three of these guys went bonkers if they got into fights.

I just remembered his name,Jim Dorey, plus another D by the name of Hutchison, they all kind of nuts when it came to fighting.

Like a few others, the first thing I thought of was Tucker taking on the Ottawa Senators bench. (But really, outside of Neil and Chara they were all pansies  ;D) so maybe it wasn't that crazy.

Still makes me laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfzPsv2KT2Y&feature=related

Announcer: "What is the suspension for jumping into a bench to start a fight?"

How about when he tells people, "Watch your Knees!" And then proceeds to take out people's knees?

Danny Markov is a guy who stands out in that respect for me a little. He was a pretty small guy but he threw himself all over the ice like he was a freakin' pinball.

edit: Also, giving Jagr the salute is one of the all-time great underrated Leafs moments.

I will agree with this whole-heartedly.  He went on to two pretty good years with the Coyotes and then bounced around a bit.  But he is one that I genuinely miss and I think there was a lot more that he could have given. A 5/8 Nikolas Kronwall with the heart of a lion.  He was a shot blocking machine, too.

This thread actually reminded me of a DGB post from last season about how one of the current Leafs can be considered pretty crazy himself...

Now there are two things you need to know about Grabovski. First, he had never in his life had an NHL fight. And second, as Leaf fans have come to understand, he?s sort of a crazy person.  Not ?actually dangerous? crazy. More like ?why is he stabbing that pineapple?? crazy.

Put it this way: You get the feeling that Grabovski has a lot of conversations that end with the other person backing away slowly while trying not to break eye contact too quickly.

So who did Grabovski decide to face in his first-ever fight? Senators enforcer Chris Neil, of course. (Neil outweighs him by more than 30 pounds and has been one of the NHL?s leaders in fighting majors for more than a decade.) Needless to say, Grabovski won. Never mess with a pineapple-stabber.

Later, Grabovski explained to reporters that he wasn?t scared of fighting an enforcer twice his size because ?I?m scared only of my wife when she slaps me in the face some times. You know, when I?m bad."

(Backing away slowly and moving on to the next section.)

LOL. Nice job.

Bobby Baun.  - Carried off by stretcher after having his ankle broken by a Gordie Howe shot.  Refuses X-rays, gets taped up, scores the winner to put it to a game 7.  Still refuses the x-ray, pops some pain-killers and plays the next game as well.  The old boys really were something inspiring.  Can't get behind modern players like that

Tucker.

Ottawa.

Bench.

Q.E.D.

he was spit on which is a mitigating circumstance not included in your formal proof.  How would any of you react if you were spit on.

Kurt Walker?  His spitting on The Flyers Dave "The Hammer" Schultz  got him ejected, (and eventually suspended), during a fight in a Leafs-Flyers playoff tilt back then.  The Leafs needed all the Kurt Walkers in their arsenal against the big, bad Flyers, and missing Kurt 'hurt' the Leafs badly, indeed.

I liked Tiger Williams (one of my favourite Leafs), but that stick-swinging duel with the L.A. Kings Dave Hutchison during a playoff game way back in those days, was a wild act on both players part.

Some old ones that spring to mind...

Eddie Shack getting into it with the Pocket Rocket and then grabbing Henri Richard's head and giving him a cocobonk to end the altercation.

The usually mild mannered Frank Mahovlich skating over to the penalty box and using his stick to jump the boards and start pummeling Chicago tough guy defenceman Jack Evans.

And Forbes Kennedy just lost his freaking mind one night against the Bruins (then a very tough and dirty team). Blood and hockey equipment everywhere.

The one night Shack got into a stick swinging fight with Larry Zeidel although I somehow recall that Shack was no longer a Leaf at the time.
