Not to mention that the idea that it would "hurt the tank" seems unlikely. We might see flashes of brilliance but odds are he and the other call-ups will look out of place at times and struggle with some of the challenges.

Yeah. Like all young players, there will be inconsistent aspects to his and the other young guys' games at the NHL level, there will be larger number of mistakes made than we'll see when they've settled in as NHLers, etc.

Yeah, I noticed some missed defensive assignments/coverage there in the past couple of games.  I think that's generally where they're going to struggle a bit, especially with playing against guys with NHL speed.

Definitely. The two biggest areas where there's going to be need for improvement are going to be on the defensive side of the puck, and learning what they can and can't get away with on the offensive side.

Yeah, Nylander seems to be attempting some things (passes, moves) that just won't work at the NHL level.  I imagine it's just a learning process.  Once he figures out what he has to do to be able to do the things that he wants to do, I think he's going to be pretty dynamic.

Either that or the concussion killed all hope of him becoming an impact player.  There is no middle ground.

I don't know I've seen him make a number of nice plays that others have done nothing with.

The kid is an immensely talented youth. The key he is that he is still a youth, a kid, lets give him a few years to grow into a mans body and compete at the NHL level and then we can start to discuss whether we have a new "Sundin" or better on our hands. I hope for all of us a Sundin or better would be great.

Now draft Matthews!

Going into next season he'll have played against men professionally for 3 years. That includes 2 half season in the AHL and a quarter of a season in the NHL. He won't be a grizzled veteran obviously but that's a lot more experience then you expect from your typical 20-year old prospect.

So you think the two 1-goal losses to two of the top teams in the league was just luck then?

Do you really believe that 2 games is enough of a sample size to be an indication of anything?

Two shifts is enough for some corners of the internet. This is not one of them, thankfully.

No so that would leave us both without an answer

No. I think it answers your question. The last two games aren't an indication of future success, so, regardless of whether or not it was luck, it doesn't matter.

I won't bemoan wins if they're being created by our young players anyway. If it happens it happens. It's not as if we're going to play .700 hockey the rest of the way with them anyway.

Nor is it an indication of how poorly they will play. It really doesn't do anything for an argument of any kind.

No one argued that it was. But, congratulations on knocking down that straw man.

Millen brings up Nylander taking a long shift. I mean yeah that's what happens when you have a constant cycle in the offensive zone and the pucks keeps going to you.
