The Wings are pretty banged up.

Yeah I actually think that this game is pretty winnable. Ugh.

On the bright side I think that Kadri breaks out tonight. He could feast on this defence.

The Wings have been a pretty bad possession team, so it could certainly be an interesting night. Still, can't take them lightly. Even with the players they have out, there's a still some really good talent in that lineup.

I'd really have liked to see Corrado get a chance over Polak too, just to see what it'd be like to have three d pairings that are all above average in terms of mobility.

But I want a Top 3 pick. Is your dream better than mine?  ;D

Yeah, I hear you.

Watching Polak is just a bit of a chore, I'd like to see what they picked up in Corrado.

I hear you, but I think they've gotta play Polak in the hopes that someone will see enough value in him to negotiate a trade. He has potential to be the type of guy a bunch of teams can be tricked into wanting at the deadline.

I want to see him play too. I semi-expect him to play simply because it's a back-to-back this weekend.

Absolutely, I'm just antsy to get a good look at Corrado, I realise that it is unlikely to be consistently in place of Polak over the short term.

As herman mentioned, he could get a look this week. I just wonder what the plan is for the next few months.

The plan has to be to give Polak a chance to boost his trade value so that probably means the two guys sitting in the #7/#8 slots are young guys who really would benefit from playing time.

Do we think either would clear waivers/would they be risked to get them some playing time?

Perhaps they rotate Harrington/Marincin/Corrado?

I thought he was a pretty decent defender last season...is my memory as bad as my wife says it is?

Part of the issue I ran into with him was that he looks like what we grew up understanding a good stay-at-home dman to be. The problem is that the game has passed those types of guys by.

Last season, like you I wondered what people's problem with him was and then I did some reading, understanding why almost all his advanced stats are so bad made me watch the game a little differently. I began to notice that the team was almost always in it's own zone when he was on the ice, often times because he was outskated, banged it off the boards losing possession or he couldn't make a good outlet pass to clear the zone.

Watching him now all of this really stands out to me and it's really noticeable the impact playing with him has on other players on the team.

I think a lot of his issues were hidden last season by how bad the team was as a whole and how much time they spent in their own end. So, for more of his icetime, he was positioned to show his strengths. Now that the Leafs are playing more structured hockey and haven't been hemmed in their own zone as much, his mobility and puck moving issues are being exposed.

I think Polak makes sense as a guy to add defensive depth at the deadline for a playoff contender. He's got a bit of a mean streak, which likely works in his favor. I don't think Polak will be overly difficult to move, it just depends on the Leafs' expectations. Does he get you a 4th or 5th (3rd?) round pick?
