Think Canada needs to rethink their goaltending selection process next year. Haven't been impressed with any of them.

Problem is Canada just hasn't been generating any good goalies lately. Blackwood had by far the best save percentage for goalies in the OHL this season.

Yeah you can only pick from what you have. There's not much there.

I'm interested to see how the new overage goaltenders not counting in the OHL will affect this.  It's good that guys will get more development time but the 16/17 year old goalies are going to get even less of an opportunity to play now.

Huh, I actually didn't hear about that rule. Seems odd, you'd think they'd be more focused on those 17 year olds getting minutes. Let the overage guys with pro aspirations start in the ECHL.

It's not implemented yet but it's coming down the pipes as a part of the banning of European goaltenders.  I don't like it.

I understand that but there are guys that might be playing well but don't get recognized on how they are playing. From my understanding they are picked ahead of time. When are the goalies set? Summer, October?

Well they can pick whoever they want when they select their roster, but yeah even going back to the summertime they only had 3 goalies in their camp: Blackwood, McDonald, and Montembeault. Still, Blackwood would have likely been their go-to guy even if they cast a wider net on that.

Also, worth point out that Blackwood had a .945 Sv% in the OHL since November 1st. So again he was probably having the best season of any goalie in junior this season.

Patrick Laine looks huge out there. Most services have him and Puljujarvi at about the same size, but it looks like Laine has a noticeable advantage there to me.

A lot of interesting guys for us to draft out there if we get a top 5 pick :)

MITCH MARNER

Goalie should have had it but again dekes inside the slot to get the backhand off.

Yeah watching the replay it was slightly less impressive, but there's really only a handful of guys in his age group that have the confidence and the ability to even make that initial move at this stage.

I mean...I think part of the reason why the goalie didn't get it is because Marner made the extra move to go backhand.

It would be cool if one of the 19 year olds wanted to step up their game at some point.
