I think Binnington played ok..... give him his credit......the last couple of goals was mostly on the defense. This was his best game of the series.

4 Nations has been an historic series thus far. Heros like Crosby McDavid and MacKinnon have led the way. It's been very even amongst teams, and every game has been exciting. 5.2m Americans watched Saturday night. Fights galore!

And Thursday final is gonna be sick.
 
Marner played just 12:46 for the night — only Konecny played less amongst Canada forwards. For context, Reinhart led the team with 16:37, so it’s not like they rode the top dogs to the ground, but it’s still discussion-worthy that Marner was 11th out of 12 among forwards in time on ice.

I know you compared to this field of NHL's top players in 4 Nations....... but Even when compared to Matthews.....Matthews is a center and they get paid more than wingers (just like QBs get more than wide receivers). Matthews is elite top 3 and a different level than Marner. You can build a team based on Matthews (not Marner).

If you're "breaking it down" and coming to a number below $13M for Mitch Marner, I'd love to understand that as a real breakdown and not wishful thinking. Marner will be the marquis UFA under a rising salary cap. In the example of Matthews above, Matthews signed a short deal under a lower cap. I'm sure Marner's and co. will point to the Leafs performance with Matthews out of the lineup and contest the statement that you couldn't build an offence around him. i.e. I don't think Matthews creates a ceiling for Marner's AAV.

In fact, I think it quite likely that Marner specifically seeks to exceed that number.

I guess if I'm trying to figure how he might end up below $13M, he could conceivably take a lower salary to sign in Florida. But I don't consider that a good outcome for the Leafs.

1. He gets the turnover by holding the line to keep the puck in the OZone,

2. Skates in and cycles back to see if any one is open.

3. Decides to shoot and SCORES! Unassisted.

 
Given that this game is a bit more meaningless than before, good to rest Matthews. He probably should have rested the tournament though.

This does not surprise me. He played a really good defensive game the other night but was pretty ineffective offensively. Kind of like how he's looked a lot of this season. I bet he winds up having some kind of surgery after the season.

Another FANTASTIC game in this tournament. Sweden ties Canada in standings.

Every game so close (except for one period of US v FIN).

The worst case scenario seems to be unfolding with this four nations tournament with respect to Leafs players. Sweden goes meekly out, Nylander hardly a factor. Marner after scoring the winner in game 1 is slowly demoted away from McDavid and is having his minutes cut, and Matthews is now suddenly nursing another injury. Just great.
