1 NY Rangers vs 8 Ottawa Senators

You guys are funny.

Good luck in Game 4.

But I still want the sens to lose, eventually.  It's a DNA thang.

SENATORS IN WAIT-AND-SEE MODE WITH ALFREDSSON

With the Ottawa Senators facing a pivotal Game 4 against the New York Rangers on Wednesday, the status of injured captain Daniel Alfredsson remains unclear.

"Nothing's changed," said Senators head coach Paul MacLean, the day after his team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Rangers to fall behind 2-1 in their Eastern Conference quarter-final series. "We are going to evaluate it in the morning. If he's better and things go good, we will evaluate the lineup and we'll make decisions then."

Alfredsson left Game 2 after taking an elbow to the head from Rangers' forward Carl Hagelin, who was handed a three-game suspension for his actions. He did not play in Monday's loss.

MacLean admitted not having Alfredsson in the lineup is a big hole to fill but he praised his players for giving a solid effort in Game 3.

"He's the captain of our team and he's the most experienced player on our team," added MacLean. "I think it's a big loss for any team but I think the team stepped up and played real well."

Instead of dwelling on the negative aspect of losing a key player, MacLean focused on the chances of another player stepping up.

"When the team faces adversity it's an opportunity for someone else and I think we need to make sure we don't lose sight of the opportunity is for someone else to play," said MacLean.

Dear Mr. Colborne,

If you find yourself struggling to make it and can't find a find a niche, please consider emulating Brian Boyle. I know you're a couple inches smaller and more than a stone lighter but I think most of us would be quite happy if you played a similar game.

Tootles.
Sarge.

It's a great day to go to a game 4 - iirc I'm 0 for my last 2 playoff games. So throw the tub of Heavenly Hash at me SP if it doesn't go our way tonight

SIZING UP THE SIDES

Forwards: NYR. Senators forwards are just outscoring Boyle, 4-3

Defence: NYR. Girardi has 13 blocked shots last two games and an assist in every game

Goalies: NYR. Lundqvist is difference in the series thus far

Power play: OTT. Senators have blown one fewer chance than Rangers

Penalty killing: OTT. Winchester has been an unsung hero

Coaching: OTT. MacLean came up with effective combos in the absence of Alfredsson

Overall: NYR. Looking like it could be a seven-game series decided in OT

PLUS: Led by Spezza (6-1) and Konopka (6-2), Senators won 66% of the faceoffs in Game 3 ... Senators outhit Rangers outhit Rangers, 48-33 ... Cowen led all players with six hits ... Senators have held Gaborik, who had 41 goals during the season, to one shot on goal in the last two games.

MINUS: Rangers blocked 21 shots compared to 17 by Senators ... Karlsson had five shots on goal, but four more that were blocked and three that went wide ... Michalek, Ottawa?s top goal scorer during the season with 35, has yet to score and had just one of the team?s 39 shots on goal in Game 3 .. Rangers have won 30 of 41 playoff series after taking the first game.

ONLINE EXTRA

The Senators power play, which was 11th in the league during the season while operating at an 18.2%  efficiency, has only one goal in 10 tries against the Rangers. Forget goals, it?s currently not creating the momentum needed as it did help the team succeed during the season. ?I think we need to handle the pressure, and get the puck off the wall to have the opportunity to set something up,? said coach Paul MacLean. ?That means somebody has to hang on to the puck and make a good decision with it. Right now, we?re a little bit panicky with it. They take away time and space and we don?t seem to find the puck, get it to the right space where it?s a little bit quieter, and get things set up. Guess the bottom line is were not handling the pressure. We know that it?s there, but they?re getting there real quick and we have to do things just a little bit quicker.? ... Missing from practice, along with RW Daniel Alfredsson (concussion), was D Erik Karlsson and G Craig Anderson, who were given the day off for ?maintenance? reasons ... MacLean would not confirm that Matt Carkner, who has served his suspension, would be in the lineup for Game 4. ?We?re going to evaluate all our roster options, as we do always, to give us the best chance to win,? he said.

So the Rangers have the advantage when it comes to forwards, defensemen and goalies.  Big deal.  Hockey players are overrated anyway.
