If Alfie doesn't go tonight & game 4 does the suspension increase?

SIZING UP THE SIDES

Forwards: OTT. Gaborik didn?t have a shot on goal in Game 2

Defence: NYR. Karlsson was the best player on the ice Saturday

Goalies: OTT. Anderson outplayed Lundqvist in Game 2

Power play: OTT. Neither has been great

Penalty killing: OTT. Senators' kill of Carkner major was large

Coaching: OTT. MacLean made necessary adjustments

Overall: OTT. Senators now have home-ice advantage

PLUS: Jesse Winchester played well Saturday. His 14:32 of ice time included a strong 5:46 short-handed ... Jared Cowen bounced back strong from a minus-3 in Game 1. On Saturday, he was plus-1 with an assist, and was second on the team in hits (behind Erik Karlsson) with four ... Every Senator registered at least one hit except Matt Carkner, who only played 39 seconds. Brian Boyle would argue that Carkner actually had a number of hits ... Winchester (6-4) and Zenon Konopka (7-5) were the two Senators with winning records in the circles ...

MINUS: Rangers had 25 blocked shots in Game 2, including eight by Dan Girardi. Senators had 10 ... Sergei Gonchar took seven shots at the Rangers goal. Four were blocked, three were wide ...Brian Boyle has two goals in two games ... Anton Stralman has a goal and an assist in the series, the first two playoff games of his career.

I may be vilified for saying this, but Paul MacLean and his staff make the Senators somewhat likeable, and what they've done with this team that many predicted would have an extremely bad year (self-included) is admirable.

There's just the unfinished business of Alfie and Neil. Once they're gone, it will be possible to reconsider one's stance on the Sens. In the meantime, go Rangers go. :)

What the Senators organization has amassed for the team has been nothing short of impressive.  Shrewd drafting, trading, smart coaching, a keen eye towards improving the team, it's doubtful anyone expected the Senators to even make the playoffs this year.

The fact that they not only made the post-season, but were also moving on up in the standings later in the regular season, lends credence to their improvement as a whole.

I'm not gonna vilify you, but I'm definitely going to disagree with you. I still can't find much of anything to do with the sens that is likeable - other than maybe Paul MacLean.

Carkner went little bit loco on Boyle, but IMO I like that he sent a message back to the Rangers for the liberties they were taking on Karlesson. I liked it. It's the opposite of what the Canucks did vs. Boston last year when Sedin got the punching-bag face from Marchant.

Players have taken the self-policing model to heart this year since the league does such a sh*t job of it.  What seems to be going unnoticed is the play that leads up to all the crazy stuff.  The media only notice head shots, but there are plenty of dangerous hits going on that involve knees, back, liberties on star players, etc that start scrums and line brawls.

Outside of the flying elbows to heads or other checks intended to destroy a vital body part, this is great fun to watch.

God only knows what the NHL will do or not do in response, but you can almost guarantee it will be the wrong response.

Alfie out for game 3..... http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=8657

This most likely means that the concussion is fairly serious.  If he is missing game 3 I won't be surprised to not see him back this series.

If Alfredsson is out for the series, does that mean Hagelin's suspension gets extended?

No score through 2, but what a fantastic game.  A real goaltender's duel tonight.  You're missing out if you're not watching this one.

EDIT: Spezza needs to wake the hell up, though.
