1 NY Rangers vs 8 Ottawa Senators

Watched about 25 or so Ranger games this year. They have played dirty like this all season. How they don't get called more is beyond me. Have to give the Sens credit they don't dive and head snapback like the Penguins.

this is at least partly the officials' fault though. If they'd laid the law down with the first altercation after the Dubinsky/Carkner nonsense (I don't remember who it was anymore, but I mean the first incident after they'd already banished those two) and perhaps told them 'next guy goes too' kinda thing instead of letting things escalate (descend?) further and further, maybe it wouldn't get so messy.

There's just no respect for each other as colleagues anymore. So much hacking and slashing, crosschecking, slewfooting etc. Just no respect for eachother. Awful to see. And as much as I hate Alfredsson, I don't like to see that kind of crap going on. And virtually unpunished.

Well, we've got a series, but if Alfredsson is done for the series, it may not matter.

I'm proudly wearing my Carkner jersey right now, way to go.

Hagelin getting a disciplinary hearing for his hit on Alfie.

Not that it really matters, they could suspend him for 20 games and it wouldn't make up for the loss of Alfie if he's out for any length of time.

Just gotta hope Neil did some lasting damage to McDonagh.

Bah, he got what was coming to him.

If he's got the balls to punch a kid he's got 8 inches and 65 pounds on, he better have the balls to man up when he gets called on it.  If Jared Cowen slapped Michael Del Zotto around, I'd expect him to pay the consequences too.

I'm not hating on Boyle, he's a big, physical, bottom 6 roleplayer.  It's his job to get under Karlsson's skin, and he did it well.  I'm just disappointed that he wussed out when called on to pick on someone his own size (and he is still bigger than Carkner).

To be fair, if it was eye for an eye, Carkner should have sucker punched Del Zotto or Gaborik.

Hagelin elbow on Alfie wasn't one of the worst hits I've ever seen, but it was pretty dumb.

I don't know what to think of this Swede on Swede violence.

I'm very disappointed in Hagelin.  I really liked that guy.

While I'd be angry too if Boyle did what he did to Karlsson to one of our younger/better players, in reality what he did was pretty tame.  A few jabs with his glove on - yeah he's bigger and I'm sure it didn't feel very good all the same.

I didn't see Boyle turn down a fight or anything, as I didn't watch the whole thing, but I really don't think what Boyle did warranted being blind-sided and pummeled on while on the ground.  Carkner basically attacked him when he wasn't looking and continued to do so when he's on the ground.

Regardless of what happened, short of Boyle having Bertuzzi'd Karlsson, I thought that was a classless, dirty response by Carkner.

Karlsson's doing a good job of being sneaky with the slewfooting too though. Got away with a couple of those.

Again, if the refs had clamped down harder at the outset, instead of letting things deteriorate, there may not have been as much bs as there was.

Any news on Alfie yet?  :-\

I feel like there's been a ton of slew footing this year, compared to previously, and they're generally going unpunished.

Maybe players are learning new ways to be dirty, after the headshot crackdown.

Or is this just in my head and it's always happened?

Looking at the play in the other series, almost all of them carry some dirty plays, namely players trying to check the other into the boards with reckless abandon.  Not just Hagelin on Alfreddson, but Weber on Zetterberg, and some of the goaltenders being 'accidentally' run over -- Capitals Holtby, Coyotes Smith.  The Blues' Halak was really accidentally hit in a mix-up by a player from his own squad.

The 'Yotes Martin Hanzal was left dazed by one of the 'Hawks d-men, Alex Ovechkin was practically being bowled over from every Bruin in his view (he can take that of course, Ovie), and well, the list goes on.  The playoffs have featured fantastically tough hockey, it's just that every once in a while, the dirty plays take precedence.

Rivalries are heating up amongst the teams which means lots more nonsense interspersed with fast-paced action, great goaltending, superior comebacks, nail-biting overtimes, etc., etc., etc.

Lay it at Shanahan's feet. All the talk, he to has been a failure. No man has has the cajones to take on the reckless stupididty in the NHL. Same with the NHLPA

Can I be pleased that Deliverance Boy was last night's hero?  No, I cannot.

Do I believe that Alfredsson's injury is delayed karmic retribution for his hit on Tucker?  No, I do not.

In any case, grudging respect to them sens for their team performance.
