2011-2012 NHL Thread

I fully expect the Bruins to flame out once the playoffs start. It feels like teams that dominate in the early stages of the season tend to do that.

Usually this has happened to teams in the NHL throughout history, but at the rate Boston's playing, they might even run out of gas, so to speak, before playoff time.  Or, maybe not.  Who knows.  It'll be interesting to see what happens over the long haul.

I don't know...they don't seem to be exerting a whole lot of energy whipping these teams.

Cam Ward credited with the empty netter tonight.

A few people are saying Sutter may have tipped it. Hard to tell from this angle:

Yeah, from the slowed down replay at the end, it looks like he does, but, oh well.

The Minnesota Wild have followed a 7 game winning streak with a 7 game losing streak, going 0-5-2 in that span. They're in full on free-fall mode right now, dropping from 1st in the NHL to 6th in the West.

It's crazy... I try to remain level-headed about losing streaks but the way things are, they really can be season killers.

I watched a lot of the Canucks-Ducks last night, and something is seriously, seriously wrong with Ryan Getzlaf.  He looked atrocious.  He was lazy, soft on the puck, and continously just threw it away causing numerous giveaways.  It was embarassing really.

I was watching the Canucks feed (John Garrett and that other guy) and in the third period the other guy remarked sarcastically, "I am not sure what to make of Ryan Getzlaf?" to which Garrett asked (also sarcastically) "so you're not impressed?."  The other guy then says, "uh, no.".

Honestly, that was one of the laziest, most uninspiring efforts I have EVER seen from an NHL all-star.

So what's wrong with him?  Is he just going through the motions playing for a terrible team?  Or is there something else?

Bruce Boudreau... Star destroyer.

Could be.  Coupled with the fact he's playing on a lottery team I can see him going through the motions a bit.

Still.... Eric Staal is playing for a lottery team and you can see he is putting forth the effort.  Not sure what that says about Getzlaf if he really is mailing it in?

I don't know what the deal is really.  I just through BB out there as a possibility. OV certainly didn't flourish under him... and, let's keep on with the theme of EVERYTHING being the coach's fault.  :D

Sarge I have never put this out there because I certainly would be rediculed for it but in the games I have seen Getzlaf play in Phoenix the last several years this is actually how he plays everytime.  He rarely exerts much energy and looks like a very lazy player.  I never see him skate hard and rarely engages in a physical game.  I guess now that the points aren's coming and team is crappy everyone is starting to point this out.
