2011-2012 NHL Thread

Nylander is getting a tryout with Philly, doubt he has much in the tank... hopefully they remember he's over 35 before signing him to anything...

He had some terrific chemistry with Jagr back in their Rangers days. Could be interesting.

Yeah they did, I think it's a long shot but I guess they've invested in one so why not try the other.

TORONTO (August 19, 2011) ? Chris Drury announced his retirement today from the National Hockey League (NHL) following a 12-year career.

After being drafted by the Quebec Nordiques with the 72nd pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Drury went on to play 892 career NHL games with four different teams (Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers).

I guess injuries got the best of him?... Enjoy your retirement Chris.

A fine career. He was a winner at just about every league he played in along the way.

So the Rangers are still stuck with the ~3.7 mil. cap hit on the buyout this year AND the ~1.7 mil. next year? If so, I can't imagine the Rags are too happy he didn't do this prior to the buyout.

The injuries he experienced largely happened in the line of duty for the Rangers (ignoring wear and tear over his career). That's what brought about his retirement as much as anything. At 34, it's not like he's really old. I find it hard to blame the player a bunch under those circumstances.

So it is true?... and I'm not questioning the cirumstances or faulting the player, just noting that the timing really stinks for the Rangers.

I agree, the reason he is retiring is most likely due to past injuries bringing his game down, which happened playing the game. If he wasn't bought out he probably would have finished off his contract, which he was entitled too, can't blame him for retiring now that he has been bought out.

That's almost certainly how it would have played out, and, I wouldn't be surprised if part of his decision to retire now has something to do with the lack of interest from the league as well. I'm sure he looked for the opportunity to show that he still might be able to play.

Per capgeek, Buffalo is -$3,595,357 mil. with 23 players signed, Washington is -.$890,128 mil. with 23 players signed, and Philadelphia is +$175,239 mil. with only 22 players signed. Once Philly adds a player, they will join the aforementioned in needing to make a roster move to dump sallary. My question is - How many days left until they are required to get under the cap?

Also, Dobber's view on Buffalo is that either Boyes or Pominville is a goner, stating "You can?t have three non-physical offensive right wingers all making $4 million or more per season." - Hard to argue with that.

They have until 24 hours before their first game of the season to get under the cap.

I think Morrisonn's $2 mil and Kotalik's $3 mil are higher up their priority list to get rid of.

They'll be an interesting team to watch in September because they do have some prospects like Kassian that could also shake things up.

Washington and Philly will most likely use LTIR to help out their cap issues (Poti for Washington and Laperriere for Philly).

NBC has released the 2011-12 NHL television schedule, with some changes, namely, televising some games on Friday nights, along with the usual Sunday game foray, as well The Winter Classic New Year's Day, and the NHL Stanley Cup Final.  NBC affiliate Versus, will broadcast the rest (the Leafs will appear just twice, while the Oilers zilch, zero).  Lots and lots of Boston, Detroit, Rangers.  Few, if any, of California-based teams.  Strange schedule for some, indeed.

I like Giguere's, it's nice & simple.  Bryzgalov's looks cool, but I don't get how a tiger relates to him, the city, or team.  Besides the colour scheme, obviously.
