2011 Blue Jays/MLB Thread

Gose had 70 steals and was caught stealing only 15 times (still around .250 and K's too much).

I think the really encouraging thing with Gose is that he bumped up his OBP to .349 and he showed a little power.

Hechavarria batted .389 with .431 OBP in 25 games after moving up to AAA.

Although he put up terrible numbers in AA. I'm starting to think they're putting something in the water in Vegas.

Didn't care much for the Taylor/Wallace trade, really liked the Wallace/Gose trade (which I got ripped for at the old site.) I'm hoping for a bit of vindication here eventually with Gose.

How do the Marlins qualify for revenue sharing if they would have spent about 80 million dollars on new salaries?  Is the MLB revenue sharing that horribly messed up?

If anyone can find a way to get free cash it's Jeff Loria and David Samson. I mean not enough they have a stadium fully paid for by the public. But they need MLB to pay for their players too.

Respect for Ryan Braun = 0

He's innocent because after he found out about the positive test in the playoffs he demanded a second test that turned up clean at a later date.  Nothing could possibly have been done in the mean-time.

I think you may be leaping to judgment a little soon. I don't know if Braun took anything, he very well may have, but it strikes me as a little early in the process to lose all respect for a guy.

Word is now that Braun tested positive for a prohibited substance, but not a PED, whatever that means. Apparently, it's the first such result on an MLB test.

Hopefully it was an honest mistake...but this seems to be the ritual with most atlhetes caught...

In the case of a banned substance...it was an accident.
In the case of testorone...I take it for a medical condition.

For his and baseball's sake, I wish this is not what it seems.

Performance Enhancing Drug

Here's a piece from an article from FosSports MLB:

... Braun is part of a generation of players who began getting tested in the minors. Those players are familiar with the process, understand that they must consult with team trainers and doctors if they haveany question about what they are putting into their bodies.

It?s pretty simple; if you steer clear of PEDs and any substances that might be confused with PEDs, you can?t test positive. But the source close to Braun says that his test result was highly unusual, ?never seen in the history of the drug-testing program.?

We shall see.

Here's the most recent thing I've read:

Braun's positive result was triggered by elevated levels of testosterone in his system. A subsequent, more comprehensive test revealed the testosterone was synthetic. In other words, it was not produced by Braun's body.

The news took an even more disturbing twist Sunday afternoon when the New York Daily News reported, through a source, that Braun's original test results were "insanely high, the highest ever for anyone who has ever taken a test, twice the level of the highest test ever taken."

Which begs the following questions: Could Braun possibly be that stupid? Could those test results have been botched and thus are flawed? How dependable is the testing system?

Excessive Exercise Raises Testosterone Levels
Testosterone is produced by both men and women. Testosterone is a type of steroid that acts like a hormone. Normal exercise is important for maintaining a healthy body, but excessive exercise can cause elevated testosterone levels. Increased physical activity will raise testosterone levels.

High Testosterone Foods
Levels of testosterone fluctuate naturally, but improper diet can increase testosterone levels. Oysters and red meat and poultry increase levels of testosterone. Increased intake of these foods will cause a noticeable increase in testosterone.

Causes
Abnormal testosterone levels are caused by genetics or the use of testosterone-enriched substances such as anabolic steroids.

TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT- @BlueJays have acquired OF BEN FRANCISCO from the @Phillies in exchange for LHP FRANK GAILEY.

Well, this is bit of a confusing (though, extremely minor) trade. Value-wise, it's fine - a 4th outfielder type for a guy who may never get more than a cup of coffee at the MLB level - but, in terms of the roster, a little odd. The Jays have a glut of outfielders - Bautista, Rasmus, Davis, Thames, Snider - who are as good or better than Francisco. I know they've been trying to work on a few other deals, and this could just be insurance of sorts if Davis/Thames/Snider are somehow involved in them (and, odds are, one of Thames and Snider will be), but, on its own, it's sort of an odd sock. I wouldn't say it's a precursor type move like the Frasor-Jackson trade, but, I have to imagine it's part of a larger scope.

Shulman agrees, he thinks its something big:

Gotta be another move coming for the #jays. Too many OF, not enough pitching. Keep feeling Alex Anthopoulous has something big brewing...

Tweeps have #jays hot on the heels of Gio Gonzalez. There's a fit..Snider/pitching prospects to #athletics? Something's brewing...
