2011 NFL thread

Think the Lions secondary will be the off-season focus after Green Bay and this game.

That and a healthy RB.  After Megatron they don't have much to go on offensively and one receiver who can go up and grab balls isn't enough if you can't augment it with yards on the ground.

They have that RB in Javid Best. What they need is a better 2nd option. The Lions struggled after he went on IR and the offense turned into pitch and catch with Megatron. The defense though needs help. Doesn't matter how many points you score if you can't stop the other team from doing the same.

I think a lot of that can come down to ball control though.  The defense can't stop anyone, but they also don't get very many breaks.  If you can't run the ball and slow down the clock I think it kills a mediocre defense, and there is no way that you can fix a defense to the extent that the Lions need to.  Their secondary was banged up though to top off the problems they already.

Another lopsided game - haven't watched it but it is 24-2 for the Giants with just over 2 mins left in the game. Probably a combination of Giants D and the Falcons just not being able to get it done - again.

What? Denver is up 20-6 at the half. Did not see that coming.

Let's see if they hang on in the second half.

Ike Taylor getting abused in the secondary.  Ben's ankle is done so he can't move and the Steelers line is playing abysmally, they aren't blocking anything.

The Steelers are in the red-zone though.  Technically just scored a touchdown, but it's going to get pulled back to the half-yard line.

And another touchdown. Brees 25-31, 309 yds, 2 TDs so far. Wow.

With the win over the Lions, the Saints set a new NFL post-season record of offensive yards with 628, thus breaking the old mark set 49 years ago.

Also, Saints quarterback Drew Brees set an NFL post-season record (in regulation play) of 488 total yards passing.  The Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar originally set the mark in a playoff game in 1988, however that it included overtime, not regulation play.

The Saints keep rolling along!

Impressive!

Steelers tie it at 23 with 3 minutes left in the 4th.

Tebow actually has a reasonable stat line - 9/18 for 236 1 TD; 10 carries for 50 years and 1 TD but they had a bunch of chances to put the game away and came away with FGs because Tebow couldn't hit his receivers.

He's probably played well enough to give himself a job for next season though.

WOW.  Tebow throws a TD pass on the 1st play of overtime to win the game!  What an awful job by the Steelers offensive line and secondary.

Tebow has god on his side.  The result was inevitable. :D

Fun game to watch though.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm on Mile High this evening.  :)

I'm just glad Tebow showed up in the first half (TD run and pass in 2nd quarter). Usually Denver fans have to wait until the 4th and/or OT!

New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light, on Tom Brady and quarterbacks in general....

?[It?s] not unlike a lot of other guys that are very, I?ll say passionate about what they do,? Light said. ?I played with [Drew] Brees in college. He?s kind of the same way. I think most quarterbacks are gambling men ? they like to take chances, like to go out there, they like to get the wins and all that good stuff. When they don?t, they?re upset like everybody else on this team. Nobody handles a loss very well. We each have our own way of doing it. I think you guys can all see how into it Tom is each week and what these games mean. He puts a lot into it, we all do.?

No way Tebow beats Brady!  :D

Too bad. I was really looking forward to seeing a New Orleans - Green Bay showdown.

But I have to admit the game with the 49ers had a great finish.

I, too, expected Brees and the Saints to be in the NFC Championship game against the Packers.  The  49ers and the Giants obviously had other ideas.

Guess now it'll be the coaches of both teams matching wits -- Harbaugh (San Francisco) and Coughlin (Giants).  We'll see who outsmarts who.

Man, I sure wish God would finally choose a football team to root for once and for all. I mean, it seems like every Sunday a different team is the beneficiary of divine intervention.
