Yes, Phoenix, but I still think Luongo would be a better fit for the Islanders, in that, he can provide a stable goaltending atmosphere, for a team in need of stabilizing their goaltending situation.

Hey, we can still use our financial muscle on a smaller scale. Remember the Olaf Kolzig favour we did for Tampa?lamajama said:bustaheims said:NYP_Brooksie: NHL has notified GMs that league will not allow player to be traded, amnestied and then re-signed by original club, Post has learned.
I posted this in the Armchair GM thread too but as usual, something the Leafs could do with their financial muscle, is disallowed...

Looking back, Cliff Fletcher's 2nd tenure as GM was largely pretty bad. His 2008 trade deadline sell-off yielded some draft picks that turned out to be a) non-NHL'ers or b) traded away for enforcers (Mayers, Hollwegg). Then he traded up to select Luke Schenn and traded away Steen and Colaiacovo for Stempniak.Deebo said:KoHo said:Hey, we can still use our financial muscle on a smaller scale. I remember that we had to forfeit the asset we gained from it due Cilff Fletcher's handling of the signing of Jonas Frogren.

Although, all things considered, trading a 2nd for Grabovski probably makes up for it.

Fletcher was pure crap. Trading Steen, who's now a premier two-way forward, was horrifically bad.
Then giving up assets to move up and take Schenn - who's been surpassed by about a dozen other D-men from his draft class - there's another boneheaded move.
In fact the entire 08 draft was terrible for us, aside from being able to flip Schenn for JVR in the end.
I guess his legacy will be his trade for Grabovski... lol

There really haven't been too many surefire prospects to be completely honest. I guess he didn't have to move up, but its not like the other players were much better at this point. Karlsson, Del Zotto and MAYBE Myers (who has regressed big time) are better, but... meh.

3.85M per seems awfully cheap for a guy who's been a .82 PPG player over the course of the last 3 seasons and a .65 PPG player in those 3 playoff years.
Wish the Leafs could get deals of this nature. Instead players get inflated numbers a la Bozak with ice-time they get by default and then leave to the highest bidder. Shame.

Depressing the Leafs didn't have a 1st that year.
