"We are extremely disappointed in where we and the players find ourselves," deputy commissioner Bill Daly said Thursday evening. "And from our perspective, we have made repeated moves in the players' direction with absolutely no reciprocation.  Unfortunately, we have determined we are involved with union leadership that has no genuine interest in reaching an agreement. Regardless of what we propose, or how we suggest to compromise the answer is "no."  At some point you just have to say "enough is enough."

At this point, both sides probably do need to take some time away from each other to re-group and re-strategize. What they've been doing so far has gotten them nowhere. Agreeing to not talk for a couple weeks isn't going to make things any worse than they already are.

I would buy that if I thought both sides were bargaining in good faith and just needed to get over an impasse.  Now in all honesty, I haven't been following the talks at all closely, but the impression I'm left with is that neither side is bargaining in good faith at this point (by which I mean that they are actively seeking an immediate resolution rather than posturing/stalling to try to gain leverage for a better deal down the road).
 
I still don't see the 'repeated moves in the players direction' that Daly is talking about.  It is only that way if you base it off their initial 'lowball' offer.
 
Enough already.

Who's up for a trip to Minsk? We'll catch a few KHL games and pick up a case of good Russian vodka to drink in the stands.

They tried that. Daly and the younger Fehr had some long "negotiating" sessions, and, well, it's lead them here.

It's about the same as the players making "concessions worth about a billion dollars." The "concessions" the players have made could, in a worst case scenario for the league, see them getting a larger percentage of revenue than under the expired CBA.

In all likelihood, we will be too drunk to drive, but it appears from that clip that we still could if we needed to.

I'm told Minsk is beautiful in the fall. We will really need two weeks to see all the sites and take in the culture. Not to mention all the hockey we'll need to see to replenish our systems.

Come to think of it, we should be arriving back home just as the collective bargaining talks have picked back up again. :o :o

We better make it a month....

I hope this lockout means that 10 franchises disappear due to lack of interest. The NHL really needs to hit rock bottom.

Of course, because if you can't get get 2 people to agree, getting 400 to agree is the solution.
 
Fehr needs to put the latest offer from the league to a vote. I'm guessing the majority of the players would privately vote 'yes'.
