2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

These Blue Jays sure looked like a happy bunch.  Good for them and for team chemistry.

"I know it's Day 1, and we've seen an awful lot in the first game, but the one characteristic we had last year was a relentless attitude and a relentless approach, and came back a number of times and today was another example," said Farrell. I think that just speaks to the character of this group."

Kudos to the ever-improving Arencibia, with his defensive work and timely homer.

As much as J.P. Arencibia's home run will get the attention, it's his defence that also helped carry the day.

He blocked countless balls in the dirt, several with men in scoring position, and threw out Shin-Soo Choo trying to steal second in the sixth.

"It's remarkable how far he's come from this time a year ago," said manager John Farrell.

"Part of my job is knowing that I can impact the game defensively and you can't take for granted every pitch, it can lead to something. Even that pitch where Perez threw the fastball in the dirt, I was able to get my glove in a good position where it hit off my chest and bounced forward and didn't give an opportunity to score."

Following today's game on yahoo. No hits in the game through 4.5 innings.

Either the pitching today is world class, or both teams hitters just suck.

There have been a ton of hitless/scoreless innings in this series and it's not even through 2 games yet...

Top of the 7th now, only one hit - unfortunately, it's a 2 run homer for Cleveland.

Jays win again 7-4, again in extras. Too bad about Santos blowing his first save opportunity. I am impressed that they pulled off wins when the opposing starters held them to two hits and one hit over 8 innings and 7 innings.

Lots of positives so far, but there are some negatives sitting there too. However, I am going to put those aside for now and enjoy the winning start to the season. :)

Two comeback wins will generate hype and attract more fans to watch the games. My cousin who dislikes baseball has asked my brother to go to a game after getting caught  up in the hype of the two comebacks. As long as the team can stay within reasonable contention I believe there could be big attendance increase this season and the next

Well, can't ask for much more than that. Bases loaded, ninth inning, Bautista at the plate...just didn't happen. Still, a pretty encouraging opening series especially where the bullpen is concerned.

Yep, Santos now 0-2 in save opportunities.

Hopefully the Jays can be 2-0 in those games - they can still pull this one out!

And the Jays lose the home opener - pretty rough finish for the crowd to have to deal with. I wonder how many fans are saying "here we go again" after all the blown saves from last year. :(

Hopefully these problems will work themselves out - however, the hitting seems to be suffering a little too.
