2013-2014 Minor Trades and Signings Thread

Yeah, that's an interesting deal. There had to be a GM in the league somewhere that would have offered up a 4th for the guy. He's still waiver exempt for the rest of this season too.

If there was, I doubt we see this deal made. He asked for a trade a few weeks ago, so his availability was fairly widely known. If someone had offered a 4th, the Devils almost certainly don't get him for a 5th. He's a flight risk and he still needs some work before he'll be a real contributor, but, for a 5th round pick, it would have certainly been worth the risk for just about anyone.

mirtle: Ducks acquired defenceman Ben Lovejoy from the Penguins for a fifth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

LAKings: The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenseman Keaton Ellerby from Florida in exchange for a fifth-round selection i? http://t.co/dRXB9nLS

So many formerly highly regarded prospects going for 5th round picks these days.

You know your stock had fallen when . . .

7th? I would have made that deal, provided we had a place to play him.

Which we kind of don't. With Frattin and Lupul both out there might be room, but definitely not on a healthy roster.

Also, we're talking about a guy who couldn't produce playing on a line with Malkin and Neal.

I haven't watched him in a long time, but I wonder what is up with his development? Maybe he's simply a bust? You're right though, it isn't very good when you can't produce with those guys.

Wow, how the mighty have fallen.  Wasn't Tangredi a 'must have' for Pittsburgh in that Anaheim deal?

That's just it. He was riding shotgun on one of the most talented lines in the league and couldn't do anything. Either, he's not ready (which, considering his age, is a concern) or he's just not good enough. I'd lean towards the latter. He's a big guy and plays fairly physical, so, he probably has some sort of career ahead of him as a 3rd/4th liner, but, at this point, he's also the type guy that A) is frequently available on waivers and B) every organization has a couple of in the minors.

Wasn't he the guy everyone wanted instead of Caputi in the Ponikarovsky trade?

mirtle: Jets announce they have traded forward Alexei Ponikarovsky to the Devils for a 2013 seventh round pick and a 2014 fourth round pick.

Tangredi and a 4th for Poni, pretty decent deal for the Jets.

Agreed.  After seeing what someone like Keaton Ellerby brought back in trade I'm surprised at the value Poni got.  If the Leafs decide to move some parts before the deadline (ie. MacArthur), I'm feeling optimistic at what the return might be.

The only thing I remember from Tokarski is Pierre McGuire freaking out over his save at the world juniors against the US.

Lots of moves lately, Hmmm.. and none from the Leafs. its nice when your team is playing well, and your not making moves, gives a team time to grow together.

It always boggle my mind that there used to be fans of Poni when he was with the Leafs.

What's wrong with a few 20 goal and 50+ point seasons? Out of all the players to pick on, how does Ponikoravsky enter the equation?
