CanadiensMTL: Canadiens acquire goaltender Dustin Tokarski from Tampa Bay in return for C?drick Desjardins DETAILS -> http://t.co/DLCfZbEt

The only thing I remember from Tokarski is Pierre McGuire freaking out over his save at the world juniors against the US.

He was pretty hot in the AHL playoffs last year against the Marlies winning the Calder Cup (lost only 2 games). And he also won a Memorial Cup along with WJHC gold.

He looked really good against the Marlies but he was playing behind a really good team. I'm not sure just how good he is. Given what they got for him, it would appear the scouts are not blown away.

It always boggle my mind that there used to be fans of Poni when he was with the Leafs.

What's wrong with a few 20 goal and 50+ point seasons? Out of all the players to pick on, how does Ponikoravsky enter the equation?

I wished he used his big body more. But aside from that, I thought he was decent, two way player (plus player every year for the Leafs after a short rookie season) for a respectable contract price - a good bang for the buck.

After he left Toronto, his play seamed to slide.

Not sure of Tampa's motivation for this trade.  They trade a soon to be 24 year old goalie for a soon to be 28 year old, both of whom haven't proven they can play in the NHL yet.  That being said, you would think they'd let the 24 year old guy develop a bit more instead of trading him for a goalie i've never heard of.

Also, we're talking about a guy who couldn't produce playing on a line with Malkin and Neal.

That's just it. He was riding shotgun on one of the most talented lines in the league and couldn't do anything. Either, he's not ready (which, considering his age, is a concern) or he's just not good enough. I'd lean towards the latter. He's a big guy and plays fairly physical, so, he probably has some sort of career ahead of him as a 3rd/4th liner, but, at this point, he's also the type guy that A) is frequently available on waivers and B) every organization has a couple of in the minors.

Wasn't he the guy everyone wanted instead of Caputi in the Ponikarovsky trade?

I think you're right. I think it was floated in the media (not absolutely positive).

He certainly had caught my eye. Big guys tend to take longer to come along. For the half seasons he played in the AHL, he put up some respectable goal scoring numbers. But when you're let go for a 7th rounder (which stunned me some), that's obviously not good news for your career. The Jets could be his last realistic shot at the NHL for a top 6/scoring role.

I don't understand the move either.

I was wondering if they wanted to give Tokarski a shot elsewhere as a reward for his Calder Cup win but he's buried behind Price so that can't be it. Then I wondered if it was that way for Desjardins. That didn't jive either. So maybe it's just a change of scenery for 2 goalies who played well last year and don't seem to be quite on top of their games this year.

I can see Montreal's stance.  They're giving away an older goalie who hasn't proven he can play in the league yet at almost 28 and taking a shot at a younger kid.  Sure he's behind Price, but if he somehow finds his game and develops, they have a chip to play if another team wants him.  Not unheard of for goalies to start maturing at 24-25.  That being said, it's probably a nothing move for both teams.

Edit: actually looking at C?drick Desjardins stats, he's played 2 NHL games.  He's 2-0 with a .968 save%
Edit 2: this is the 2nd time the Habs have traded him away.

I wonder if the Flames will play McGrattan with their top point producer. lol #Orr #Sob

Canuck fans are already celebrating Sestito as the first true heavyweight since Odjick. Wait until they see him fight.

Canucks are playing the Flames on Sunday. Brian McGrattan may show the Nucks fans what kind of a heavyweight Sestito is...

;D  This guy is the worst 6'5" fighter in the league for this season and last.  He is as bad as Andre Deveaux and Koci as a fighter.

The Leafs are good with McLaren, Fraser and Orr.

The Florida Panthers announce they have acquired 23-year-old defenseman T.J. Brennan from Buffalo for a 5th round pick in 2013

Game.  Changer.

Wow.

Wake up Burke.

Good for him, he should get plenty of opportunity there.

I was somewhat hopeful given the images I him in the box with Nonis, lets hope he's not as good as Justin Schultz.

:D
