That's like saying "if Luongo throws the puck the other way around the boards the puck doesn't go in." Yeah you got me there. Any chance you can show stats that prove that Luongo's mishandling of the puck shows that he wasn't fault?

I don't need stats, nor do I need your ridiculous equivalencies. Watch the replay again and really watch Luongo. Watch how far he turns away from the play. When the puck hits his skate, he's turned all the way around so that he's facing the boards on the other side of the ice. I've watched enough hockey to have seen similar plays hundreds of times, and 99.9% of the time when the puck is in the corner of the defensive zone when his team has the puck and the other team is clearing the zone (in this case, they're going for a line change since the Habs are killing a penalty), the goalie positions himself so that A) he can see the play and B) far enough in the net that the puck isn't going to bounce off him and into the net. Luongo did neither of those things here. He made a small mistake that, yes, most of the time wouldn't cost him, but in rare cases like this, it will. He shares some of the blame for taking a poor route back into his net and turning to the other side of the ice.

I've watched the replay numerous times. Luongo looks over his right shoulder as that's the correct play in that instance. You see, as a goalie you are taught to look to where the puck is going, not where it's been in regards to watching the play behind the net. The dman was taking the puck to the right side of the net. That's where the goalie looks.

So you can continue calling me ridiculous but let's be honest. You know squat about playing goalie and this asinine conversation proves it.

I don't know, it seems to me that if Luongo was watching where the puck was and not where it was going, the puck wouldn't have gone in.

It's seems counter intuitive to watch for something that may never arrive.

In slow motion sure. It's easy to say that he should of continued looking over his left shoulder. But in reality, and in real time, at some point he had to look from his left shoulder to his right shoulder and at that point he would of lost sight of the puck. It just happens that in that instance, Hamhuis lost control and it ended up in the net. As much as we goalies would love to have a head on a 360 degree swivel, it hasn't been figured out just yet so sometimes we have to put faith in our dman not screwing it up.

In my opinion, it was just a matter of everything coming together at the same time that resulted in the goal.

Wouldn't the time to do that be when Hamhuis had already gone behind the net? I mean, unless he flips it over top or somehow slides it underneath, there is no possible way that the puck could roll in front. Hamhuis and the puck were still well on the left side when he lost control.

And you're right, you do have to put faith in your d men not to screw up, but as we've seen, sometimes they do. Wouldn't it be prudent to just watch where the puck is until it goes behind the net, rather than just assuming that's where it's going?

The phrase "better safe than sorry" springs to mind.

Cbris Pronger...where is he at now?...

Apparently Dan Boyle was taken off on a stretcher tonight and sent to hospital. Hit from behind by Maxim Lapierre.

Sid Crosby with another 3 points tonight, now at 12 pts in 6 games. I mean...if he stays healthy...could he hit 150? 140?

He hasn't had a healthy season in a while, but seriously, if he could put one together, what's stopping him from hitting north of 130 points? He certainly has the talent.

Yeah my guess would be that if Crosby stays healthy he hits the 130 range, and that would be the highest point total we've seen since the mid 90s.

On the other hand, Crosby is known to be a slow starter and he's already off to a big start, without guys like Letang and Neal in the lineup...

With the expected goal scoring increase in the league this season, this might be Crosby's big shot to finally set some cap era records.

LOL, how long do you think Ferrence's blade is?  That stick was on the shoulder, you can even see Crosby's mouth nowhere near the blade.

It looks like it's right underneath Crosby's chin. It may have just nicked him there. It's pretty clear it didn't hit him in the mouth.

It's black on black, I don't know whether his original swipe could have hit him or not.  The important area is obscured and pixelated in that .gif and can't be stopped to see.

EDIT: And from a quick search online, it seems he was bleeding after it too.

Why can't I just draw a definitive conclusion from a gif?

You can do whatever you want.

I highly doubt he was bleeding, or it would have been more than 2 minute penalty.  Also Crosby's not the type of player who wouldn't point out blood to a ref.

Pens forums have posters stating he was on the bench with blood around his mouth.  Haven't seen the video so have to go by what I read there.

EDIT:  Pittsburgh paper has something about it:

With the score tied, 2-2, early in the third period, Edmonton defenseman Andrew Ference smacked him in the face with his stick.

Crosby ended up with a nasty gash on the right side of his tongue, presumably where Ference's stick made contact.

"I have a mouthguard, so it's pretty hard to really bite it like that," Crosby said.

Whatever the cause, it was hard to miss the way Crosby was bleeding from the mouth, but the officials apparently did, because Ference was sent to the penalty box for just two minutes, rather than being assessed a double-minor.

"He wanted four minutes, for sure," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "I was actually hoping there was blood."

Wow the Pittsburgh coach and players said there was blood?  Shocking that they wouldn't admit it was a dive.  Here's Crosby's face as he checks his lip for blood:

Well, I'm pretty confused on how a high stick like that could have cut Crosby's tongue. So, either that's a really poorly worded description of the injury or something else cut him.
