Buffalo now has more wins than Dallas, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Carolina, Colorado, Arizona and Edmonton.

All while scoring less than 2 goals per game and allowing 3, and an average shot differential of -13!

It's pretty dumbfounding to be honest.  As many in the media and fans were able to point out, Crosby's parotid gland is sticking out like a sore thumb.  Mumps has an incubation period of 5-7 days before the onset of symptoms.  Once you become symptomatic (such as freaking huge salivary glands) you are still considered contagious for another 9 days.

We know the NHL has been dealing with a Mumps outbreak.  You have a player with symptoms highly suggestive of a possible Mumps infection.  Standard protocol is to tell families to stay away from public places like arenas until 7-9 days after the onset of the illness.

Extremely stupid.

completely irresponsible and idiotic.

And how!

So the KHL sounds fun right now.

@mirtle

Three KHL teams may fold due to monetary issues related to crashing ruble and Russian economy. Some coaches haven't been paid anything.

@mirtle

A lot of teams are having payroll issues with players, too. I've heard from a couple

@mirtle

Don't know exactly which teams are distressed enough to bow out of KHL but best guesses are Atlant, Bratislava and Riga. Major pain there.

@mirtle

Multiple sources confirming players on those three KHL teams haven't been paid this season: "Roughly one-third of KHL has serious problems."

@mirtle

Some agents say they've protected their KHL players' contracts from currency devaluation. But if teams don't have the money, then what?

FriedgeHNIC: Last men on the bench shooting in WASH/FLA, 18-round shootout

FriedgeHNIC: Guys can shoot a second time, as both Alzner and Mitchell are stopped

I'm pretty sure that's a first.

EDIT:

FriedgeHNIC: 40th shooter -- Bjugstad -- wins it

It only took the NHL 9 years of shootouts to come up with one I actually would have been interested in watching.

Snippet from Donald Fehr in an article to run in The Hockey News:

?If you put baseball to the side where there?s no cap, I don?t see anything yet which suggests any of the other three (North American) leagues are likely to break out of the phenomenon of a lockout every time, because a salary cap produces that phenomenon on the management side,? Fehr told THN Wednesday in an interview for a feature that appears in THN?s upcoming People of Power And Influence special edition. ?(Owners) think they?ve got nothing to lose: ?Let?s just go see what happens, and maybe we?ll get a little bit more.?

The National Hockey League is joining with a top energy provider to offset its carbon footprint across all 30 team markets.

The NHL announced on Thursday that it will partner with energy and services provider Constellation to reduce its energy usage and cut its carbon emissions.

Following through on its plan to fight climate change outlined in a first-of-its-kind sustainability report, the NHL said Constellation will help it offset its entire carbon emissions for the 2014-15 season.

The question is not how many games, it's how is he still a hockey player?  He doesn't need a disciplinary hearing, he needs one of these:

2 teams I have been enjoying watching their youth core is Florida and and to a lesser extent Winnipeg.

Tampa as well IMO.

Johnson, Palat, Killorn, Kucherov, Hedman, Drouin. It's definitely a young, exciting team.

What's funny is Stamkos hasn't even been "Stamkos good" this year. A lot of the wins have come from the 2nd and 3rd lines.

Congrats to Marty Brodeur who notched his 691st win and his 125th shutout,  both NHL records, as the St.Louis Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0.

Magnus Paarjarvi-Svensson cleared waivers from st louis.  Top ten pick still pretty young.  I'm surprised a team didn't make a low risk high reward move and claim this guy.

He skates well, but, is a perimeter player with stone hands and no physical play. He's not a low-risk, high-reward guy. He's a low-risk, low-reward guy.
