I thought this was pretty good: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/my-night-at-the-bar-with-tim-peel--nhl-ref-and-object-of-scorn-171058557.html

NHL journalists: Classy.

Dallas Eakins on hiring Tyler Dellow as an 'analytics' guy:

Alex Oveohkin becomes the first player in NHL history to score 30 goals in ten consecutive seasons.

Oh, what he could have done for the Leafs!  (natoh)

Sure, if you ignore Bossy, Gartner, Gretzky, Kurri, Bobby Hull, and I'm sure a number of others. He's not even the first player to do it in their first 10 seasons in the league.

I think that's it actually.  Jagr missed out on it by only scoring 27 in his rookie year but then went on to 15 straight 30 goal seasons after.

Well, then Jagr should on that list, as he had more than 10+ consecutive 30+ goal seasons. Ovechkin is the 5th guy to do it in their first 10 seasons, but he's nowhere close to the first guy to do it - which is what was the post I commented on asserted.

Ah.  I misread that.  I assumed it was talking about the 1st 10 years, 30 goals thing that has been talked about all week.  Yeah, there are a lot more.  Gretzky scored 40+ in 12 straight years for example.  Iginla comes to mind as the guy who did it most recently.

Who's to ignore Bossy, Gretzky, and the rest....and speaking of others in the league...well, read on:

Only Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Mike Gartner and Mike Bossy have achieved that level of consistency, and they were all retired long before Ovechkin entered the league in 2005-06.

The truth is, no NHLer in the post-lockout era can touch Ovechkin?s level of health and consistency. Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and Jeff Skinner started their careers with 30-goal seasons, but all three have been knocked off the 30-a-year pace by injuries.[//color]

Rick Nash with another 2 tonight. He's scored at a 41 goal per 82 game pace since joining the Rangers. Makes you wonder what he could have been doing on a half-way decent team all those years he was with the Blue Jackets.

Thought that was a great article, unfortunately it apparently got Peel suspended for a game:

Oh Gary Lawless and the Winnipeg media.

@Hope_Smoke

Lawless "I think this is what he [E.Kane] is. He's a very good 3rd line player. He can climb up in the lineup if there's an injury"

3rd liner!

That's ridiculous, but, in some way, it's a pushback to how over-rated Kane is in some circles. He's a good young player, but, he reminds me a lot of a guy like Lupul - similar production and injury history. Kane plays a more physical game than Lupul, but, that might the only really significant difference between the two. Ideally, he's a guy you have on your 2nd line.

Major difference for me is Kane is still only 23 - but it's hilarious to me to see someone suggest a ~50 point winger is just a very good third liner.  Maybe if this was the 80s Oilers or something.  Lupul is definitely a good comparable.
