TSNBobMcKenzie: Also, @DarrenDreger reported NHL hopes to have cameras in goal posts (a la All-Star Game) for playoffs. That's the goal. Very puny.

Really surprised it's taken this long. I've been calling for these for a few years now. The technology is there. Stick a few in the crossbar and the posts. Makes it so much easier to see if a puck crosses the goal line.

Unless the cameras have x-ray vision I'm sure there will still be goals that they can't call, but it  definitely can't hurt.

Well, yeah, but those are pretty much impossible without sticking RFID chips in the puck and coming up with an incredibly accurate way to read that info.

Former NHL player Steven Montador was found dead inside his Mississauga home early Sunday morning, according to Peel Regional Police.

Kulikov got 4 games for taking out Tyler Seguin's knees, essentially taking Dallas out of the playoff race.

I can't believe that only got 4 games. I've seen less blatant attempts to injure that involved firearms.

I was thinking something along the same lines.  4 games for a blatant attempt to injure Dallas's top scorer.  Wow!

Some things still don't make sense in the NHL.  😕

Apparently the top 5 teams players don't want to be traded to are:

1. Edmonton
2. Winnipeg
3. Buffalo
4. Ottawa
5. Toronto

http://deadspin.com/where-dont-nhl-players-want-to-play-1686594660

5 of the least successful teams in the league over the past few seasons. Not a huge surprise.

No, not all that surprising. If you read the article though it seems as though the top 3 has some distance on the rest though which is a good indication that the city matters quite a bit too.

Edit: Also, with the top 2 at least there is a little bit of a chicken and the egg thing in terms of them being bad and not attracting players.

Just reading Justin Bourne's latest and he writes this:

Since the lockout, here?s the number one center on every Cup-winning team:

    Eric Staal
    Ryan Getzlaf
    Henrik Zetterberg
    Sidney Crosby
    Jonathan Toews
    Patrice Bergeron
    Anze Kopitar
    Jonathan Toews
    Anze Kopitar

Really underscores how important it is to get an elite C, or at least a great C.

This actually explains it a little better, on why Toronto is on the "no-trade destination" list:

The combination of losing and white-hot media glare keeps the Maple Leafs as a regular on no-trade lists.

?In that media market, there are too many people trying to cover the same thing and trying to find a different edge,? said an agent. ?That?s a tough place to play.?

One agent said players are hesitant to go to Toronto but some don?t want to admit it.

?The younger guys won?t say it -- it?s Toronto, you grow up thinking it?s this awesome place for hockey,? said the agent.

Despite the negativity now, there?s hope for Toronto. If somehow Brendan Shanahan can turn that franchise into a winner, it will go from no-trade lists to a destination.

?If Toronto were to win, it would be like the New York Yankees,? said an agent. ?It?s that good a potential market.?

The Oilers and Bruins went a combined 0-for-23 last night in the shootout before someone finally scored to win the game:
