Who Fackin cares. The outside "classic" game is a joke just like the all star game and trick pony shootout competition is a joke. Soon Bettman will have trained monkeys on skates playing ice-hockey if it keeps going!!!!!!!

May I was why on earth you would think that?

I don't know if I agree strongly enough that I'd call it a "joke" but it is kind of a dumb thing that they do. Leaving aside any issues that the weather may lead to an increase in danger for the players, it's still a regular season, counts towards the playoffs game played in drastically different circumstances than any other game that year. It's like if Baseball's Hall of Fame game(played in a field in Cooperstown NY with High School dimensions) was a real game or if the NBA played a game on the blacktop courts in Central Park.

The teams know what they are getting into, and if they agree to it, I don't see a problem with it.

I wouldn't place much stock in what the media (Toronto's, that is) thinks of this Leafs/Wings Winter Classic.  This is something more for the fans to enjoy, and for the game of hockey to shine, not for some sarcastic media types to whine about.

Do yourselves a favour, countdown the days to something special, and, hopefully, another outdoor game attendance record!

If this is true, I'll have mixed feelings. I'd think about making the trip down to U of M and if they do 24/7 with the Leafs it would be fun to watch but there's also a part of me that can't help but think that the Leafs first appearance in this kind of event shouldn't be on the road. The Leafs are the NHL's most valuable franchise, Toronto is the centre of the hockey universe and for the team's first ever outdoor game the fans will have to go to friggin' Ann Arbor Michigan?

I am sure if we had an arena that sat a hundred thou plus, it would be without a doubt be playing here(and tell Burke we would sell it out in as long as they could take to get through the line up.) also dont take anything away from det they like us and the habs are hockey.

Yeah, and it's something that all parties seem to enjoy... The league, the players, the sponsors, the media... I just don't see a negative with it.

Edit: and oops... forgot to mention the fans.

The old timer game has me jacked as well. I can't  wait  to hear the words "He shoots he scores...matts sundin from Gilmore and salming" . and the fans go crazy.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that too... Sundin said he's go if asked. I imagine given their roles with the club and status with the fandom, Sittler and Clark are shoe-ins too. Other then that, it'll be interesting to see who are lucky enough to be chosen.

Salming  and Gilmore for sure.

Like I said, outside of the idea that it may be dangerous to players I don't have any issue with it in a serious sense. I'd just liken it to the shootout. I think that's kind of dumb and something half-baked but I've made my peace with it.

The Winter Classic alumni game rosters for Wings and Leafs will be announced tomorrow afternoon. Should be interesting.

I think more names will be added in the future, hopefully Sundin will be one of them.

Hopefully. You'd think Sundin would the highlight of the game if he plays.
