2015-2016 NHL Thread

The trouble with this NBC coverage is they just lob one softball question after another in their player interviews.  "How does it feel to be here, John?"  "What does this mean to you, John?"  Nothing probing or challenging at all.  It's like they're not even taking it seriously.  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

John Scott pulled out a spin deke in the shootout.  He was stopped but not bad.  The West goaltenders were made of Swiss cheese.

Yeah, but it was scored against Columbus so it probably doesn't count...pretty ridiculous goal.

1G 2A 3P in his return tonight.  15 points in 14 games.  Artemi Panarin has 47 points in 54 games.  McDavid has 31 games left in on the season.  Does he still have a shot at the ROY, and how many points does he need to hit to outmatch Panarin?

He's currently 4th in the entire league in P/GP. He's at 1.07, Seguin at 1.08, Benn at 1.17, and Kane at 1.37. McDavid has 14 points in his last 10 games (and he of course didn't finish one of those). If he scores at that pace for the remaining 31 games he'll finish with 58 points. That would just barely put him ahead of Larkin and Eichel in points, so 2nd in rookie scoring. Obviously maintaining a 1.4 PPG pace though would be pretty tough though, but that would guarantee him the Calder I think.

Even if he scores at a 1.2 P/GP pace for the rest of the year, he'll finish with 52 points in 45 games. His season P/GP would then be 1.15, potentially good for 2nd in the entire league if Benn's doesn't increase. Panarin's is at 0.87 (currently ranked 26th in the league). Combine that, and the fact that McDavid is the league's Wonder Boy, with the idea that voters might be a little biased against Panarin due to his age and the fact that he's playing exclusively with Kane and I think McDavid would have a very solid chance at winning.

As long as he plays all of the remaining games and scores at at least a point-per-game pace he'll have a shot.

If he can approach 50 points, I think it's his. That would put him at a 90 point pace as an 18 year old, which is almost unimaginable with the way scoring has dropped in the league.

In his last 18 games Sidney Crosby has 14 goals and 12 assists.

In his first 30 games he had 6 goals and 13 assists.

If they win the draft lottery....

From tonite's Montreal Gazette:

Stu Cowan: The Canadiens are done for this season

His name is Auston Matthews.

He?s a 6-foot-2, 194-pound centre who is a strong skater with exceptional hockey skills. If he had been born a couple of days earlier, the American would be playing in the NHL this season, possibly with the Buffalo Sabres.

It?s a name Canadiens fans will probably be talking about a lot for the rest of this season.

So they are thinking right along the same lines....  :P

Man I'd give them Reimer for free if it meant keeping them out of the basement. Their odds of winning the lottery now really aren't all that far off from ours.

There will be blood.

Honestly, I didn't think they'd be a disaster like this.  I'm enjoying it to the extent that they remain out of our way to a top 3 pick.
