maybe I'm missing something, but looking at Ventura's season numbers, he doesn't seem all that impressive...

He wasn't good against the Jays in game 2 either - 3ER, 8H, 2BB in 5.1IP and left the bases loaded with one out when he was pulled for Hochevar who came in and stranded the 3 runners.

Also the game where Martin lined into a double play with runners on.  Got a bit fortunate in that one.

Martin will get at least 3 RBI's tonight.

His FIP of 3.57 would be 2nd on the Jays among pitchers who started at least 20 games behind Price (who obviously didn't start 20 for the Jays, but did this season in total). Same with his 8.6 Ks per 9. Fangraphs gives him a WAR of 2.7, which again would be 2nd on the Jays behind only Price (BR had him at 1.9, which would have put him 4th, just behind Dickey). His BABIP this season was .307, which is above average, so he was a little on the unlucky side. His advanced numbers are mostly pretty good. He hasn't been great in the postseason, but, you know, small sample size and all.

Why are the US media so dumb when it comes to the Jays offense.  Ken Rosenthal on Tim and Sid talking about how the Jays are a swing and miss power-hitting team?

Jays in the postseason - 23% strikeout rate
Rest of teams in postseason - 28.6%

Jays in regular season - 7th in the league in terms of fewest strikeouts

I don't understand.

I don't disagree with the fundamental premise here but in fairness there is a difference, albeit a small one, between a team that strikes out a lot and a team that swings and misses at a relatively high number of pitches. To what extent the Jays might reflect that I couldn't say.

And, I suppose, you do have to acknowledge that there's a bit of a difference between the line-up that generated a high % of the season long numbers and the line-up they've currently got. The line-up they've got currently swaps out Reyes and Travis for Tulo and Goins who both have higher strikeout rates than the guys they replaced(although marginally so in Goins' case). Admittedly, Revere has a pretty low strikeout rate so I don't know how it all balances out.

So it was Loup's wife going into Preterm labour at 26 weeks that had him away from the team. Wow.

That has to be called back.

Come the hell off.  That was going to hit the green part of the wall.

The "above" look that the broadcast thinks was the one that shows it was a homerun seemed like the absolute worst angle to use to me.

The thing that makes no sense to me is they are talking about it being unclear if his glove is over the wall from that angle....and then they proceed to show the 2-3 other angles that clearly show his glove hitting the front of the wall.  Whether the ball would have still cleared the corner of the wall is a fair argument but the argument that the overhead view doesn't clearly show the glove over the wall is downright farcical when the other angles clearly refute it.
