2015 ALCS - Toronto Blue Jays (93-69) vs Kansas City Royals (95-67)

Hawkins is a great guy and a good story, and I hope the Jays can send him off into retirement with a World Series ring, but he's done. To bring him in when it was 5-2 was a baffling decision that is on Gibbons.

Time to reverse on the Royals for '85.

Hawkins has been awful since they got him. He had a few decent stints but since about September or so it's been a few hits and a run from this guy.

This game was frustrating because Hendricks was brilliant and absolutely gave them a chance to win. They did nothing at the plate.

One of the things that really hurt the Jays was that they really don't have their own version of Kris Medlen. If Buerhle was healthy/capable of getting guys out or Hutchinson they'd have a good long relief option but as is they're in real trouble if a starter gets knocked out early.

You can say putting in Hawkins was a bad decision but at some point the guys who are actually on the roster have to be able to get guys out or it's a pitching staff problem, not a manager problem.

I'm not blaming the manager at all... Just saying I don't like Hawkins. He has the illusion of being effective because the throws 94mph but... Well... Isn't.

That "you" was not intended for you specifically.

I didn't think were directly addressing me,  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't coming across as manager blaming.

I'm not happy about losing but I can tell you that I'm far more comfortable losing to kc than Texas.

The royals are really,  really good.

I am an innocent bystander as I do not have a dog in the fight... I am not a Blue Jays fan, nor am I a Royals fan. I was shocked though Hawkins was trotted out again.. If the Jays turn this around and go on, I really would not give him the ball again.. If they did win the 3 games and go to series I would leave him off the roster. Not sure what they have of other options as I am not that in tune with team but anything is better.

The Jays bullpen does not seem as strong as the Royals. The way baseball is nowadays those middle relievers are as important to success as any other pitcher.

this is not over but also the Royals are not Texas.. to win three in a row against these guys will not be easy

I dunno, I didn't think it was that crazy.  With Loup being unavailable there just wasn't many options in the pen.  I think Gibbons was hoping to not have to use someone like Lowe if someone else could give him 1 inning at some point.

We can question the use of Hawkins, but at the end of the day Dickey caused this mess. He's the one who put the jays in this situation. No fielding errors, no bad throws, just good old fashioned garbage pitching.

Hendricks was unbelievable, and the jays were great in the field. To me, the blame lies with the hitters for getting nothing done between innings 1-6.

Then there would have been no need to go to Hawkins. I can't blame Gibbons for the decision. He had little to no options.

I just hope they win tonight - if they're going to be eliminated, I'd rather it be on the road.

In other news, the mets are up 3-0, so there's that.
