You live in a cold climate ? Canada, say.  You have a house that needs fixing.  It's damned cold come December, January.  Your fairly rich uncle died and left you $8k.  You can buy a furnace, which is much needed.  But it snows a lot here, too, and man, that Arctic Cat would be sooooo much fun.

What do you do?

No, wait, I know this one....the Uncle was secretly my Aunt? They didn't start calling World War 1 by that name until World War 2?

No, wait, I've got it! Somehow, Herr Fronstein, My Uncle's personal physician and trusted advisor, trained a Killer Cobra to travel up the air duct into my Uncle's room and bite him before returning down the same air duct, causing the death and explaining the locked door. Then the Doctor, being the one to examine my Uncle when we found the body, "failed to notice" the telltale bite marks just above my Uncle's left ankle. That's why he was so opposed to Inspecter Morgenthal taking the body to the morgue!

J'Accuse, Herr Doctor! J'Accuse!

To be fair, it's a hot Friday afternoon during the off-season. It can be lost, just so long as it's not leaking out of my ears.

Nike where did this sense of humour come from, it is much more attractive than biting sarcasm or the will to win?.good on you, I have now laughed two consecutive days at your posts.

What do you do?

Strome is a furnace.  Marner is a snowmobile.

I'll wager $2,000 Alex.

What is poor analogies?

You're saying Marner wouldn't help the team?

Think a little harder.  I guarantee something will come to you.

As Walt Whitman wrote, "Do I contradict myself? Very well, I contradict myself. I am Large, I contain Multitudes."

Also, bite me.

I'm intrigued by Samsonov. I know it could be risky spending the 24th pick on him, but I like the idea of grabbing the best goalie in the draft.

Bernie was the top ranked goalie prospect in his draft and chosen 11 but Quick who was taken 72nd in the 3rd round was the better prospect. Goalies are a different bred and much harder to evaluate, McKenzie's rankings has 3 goalies in a row in the 2nd round starting with Samsonov so he seems to feel that there isn't much separating the 3. Mostly The Hockey News feels taking goalies in the 1st round is extremely risky and I agree.

How does that show that Goalies are different? The best forward and defenders in a draft in any given year are often chosen outside of the #1 spot.

When we trade Bernier we have Pogge looking for a job..just kidding?we can always take a goalie in a later round and we have some good prospects with the Marlies.
I think if the Leafs were that serious about goaltending that they may have at least made a stab for O'Conner (a Toronto boy).

Some comparables (as per McKenzie's Rankings):

Hanifin / Jay Bouwmeester
Marner / Patrick Kane
Strome / ex-NHLer Ron Francis
Kylington / Keith Yandle
Proforov /  Mark Giordano
Samsonov / Andrei Vasilievskiy

McDavid / ex-NHLer Gilbert Perrault
Eichel /  Ryqn Getzlaf

Pretty sure the comparison is about their 'style' of play. Who you're reminded of when you watch each of these kids play the game. That seldom equates to all-around skillset, never mind NHL career points. I'm mean, come on guys. That's really common sense.

Not sure if this changes how I feel about him, but I sure was hoping the 160 lbs number that's on a lot of sites was out of date.

You could try a novel concept of just saying what you mean.  It's crazy, I know.

I took your analogy to mean - the Leafs are the home in the freezing that needs a furnace because you'll die if you don't have heat.  Therefore a furnace = necessary for survival of the house (or success of the Leafs); a snowmobile would be fun to use but wouldn't help the issue of fixing the home (Leafs) to be liveable.  Therefore the snowmobile (Marner) is something nice to have but doesn't help fix the home (Leafs).

Couldn't you ride the snowmobile to somewhere warmer?

If the Leafs are the house then that doesn't really solve the problem, for the Leafs anyway.
