2016-17 Minor Trades Thread

Unrelated (but kind of related, lol) - didn't we use to have a thread for minor trades and signings?

Minor signings, yeah. During the Free Agent Frenzy in the Summer.

To Ottawa: Tommy Wingels
To San Jose: Zack Stortini, Buddy Robinson, 7th round pick.

Kind of nothing trade I guess - Wingels had a great year 2 years ago with the Sharks, but has kinda tapered off since.  Sens bolster their NHL depth, though, I guess?

Good trade for the Sens in that they're getting a depth piece for effectively nothing but Wingels really isn't much more than that.

Zack Stortini is signed to an NHL contract?

Ottawa gave him a TWO YEAR contract. Not only that, on the very opening day of free agency in 2015. He had played 1 NHL game in 6 seasons going into that summer.

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenceman Nikita Nesterov from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenceman Jonathan Racine and a sixth-round pick in 2017.

I always liked Nesterov's play in the playoffs when I watched Tampa. Seemed weird they generally always used him as the 7th defenceman.

PredsNHL: Trade: #Preds acquire forward Vernon Fiddler from @NJDevils for a 4th-round pick in 2017 #NHLDraft.

Trade season starting off with a bang! ;D

Jesus. I remember actually looking at Vernon as a guy the Leafs could have potentially traded for this season to fill the 4C spot and had no interest after checking his stats. 36 years old, 45% CF and 3 points in 39 games. And he got a 4th round draft pick? We gotta trade Smith ASAP.

Reputation more than anything else, I imagine.

It's a 2nd + because Carolina is retaining 50% of Hainsey's cap hit.
Price for Polak, rising?

Probably a pretty good comparable for either member of Hunlak. Also, possibly an indication about how teams feel about the quality of the 2017 draft.

Ruh Roh...is it supposed to be a bad draft class?

What I've read suggests it's a little below average. Not necessarily bad - more lacking the clear top-end talent and fairly average in terms of depth of perceived quality prospects. So, teams aren't holding on to their picks in the same way they would in a deeper draft.
